View Full Version : frenchmen's Bar 8/31 a.m.
Had 3 rods in the water by 0630. One main hog line of boats plus a few boats scattered about. No real " bite" , just saw a few fish picked-up, we got blanked :depressed: . Stayed til 1100, by then many boats had exited the scene. Definitely slower than earlier in the week. Sounds like the lower river is improving, so hopefully, those fish entering the system will be here soon.

It looks like the tide would have been dead not long after 7am. Did you have much water moving under you?
Actually, I figured we would only be able to fish 2-3 hours, but there was enough current to make the hardware work. Several boats left by 930-1000.

Better wait till you get the afternoon report before you shoot it in the head.
Ooooh...I know ....your just down playing it so no one will be there on Sunday
Kinda did suck for the morning tide.
Sorry to hear you guys didn't have any luck, guess we had the lucky charms today
Had the pleasure to fish with husker and his son and had a blast. Put in verrry early and anchored around 6am. By 7 husker hooked up and away we went floating downstream. Brawled the fish for awhile and when we finally saw it it had this golden color  so it went back to do the salmon thing graemlins/eek13.gif A short time later I looked at my rod and "thump, thump, thump, fish on!!! unhooked and floated down and finally netted a nice 40# buck.....whoo hooo!!!
The boat next to us also landed two and we only saw two others then left around 11.

That fish had sweet red meat and is already put away.
Thanks husker and husker pup!

I fish Frenchman's, but never catch anything.
What are you guys using? We usually have 3 or 4 rigs in, different depths, different hardware.
Thanks
FM 2 and Husker, nice work! I knew an I- fisher would come forward with a good report. Husker, I fished next to you last Sunday. I was in the red T-jet. We both need to get boat stickers. It's funny how with salmon fishin, the difference between a good and bad day is one slimy thing in the box. Good luck to you all.
fishboy5, the fish we hooked today were on alvins or now they are called Brads. I used a 5' dropper, a three way swivel, 3' of 40lb leader to a 3 bead chain then 4' of 30lb leader to the alvin. I used a chrome alvin with blue stripe on the butt end and the others had a chartruese butt end.
We anchored in 46' of water. The fish we hooked and the boat next to us seemed to be in the meat slot. I don't know the area well enough to say if there are other slots but this is what worked today.
Hope that helps

We fished off the Sandy mouth today, DEAD!! There were about 50 boats in the area, above and below us. We got out at 7 AM, fished til 1:45 PM, we did not see one fish at all!! graemlins/berry.gif Got back to Chinook Landing @ 2:15 to a Police Action!! They had 2 of the 6 ramps closed, Oh What A Mess!! There was a body found out in the Columbia, and they were transfering it from the Sherrif's boat to the Medical Examiner's Truck. My wife said the stench was unreal, she heard the Deputy say the body was badly de-composed!! We Feel bad for the Family of this person. :depressed:

The afternoon was just as bleak. Dead - even worse than Friday. A little action for us between 6-7 but certainly not a "bite". We ended up with a 20# hen and released a 18-20# tule and a unclipped coho jack. I saw maybe 8 fish landed all day, and it wasn't for lack of people trying..... I hope the lower river reports mean something good!

Slowest day in a week out there today. Started out anchored next to Fishin Mission and Sureset. I finally managed to hook up on a little 12# buck around 3:00. Sureset and FM moved a bit down stream and inside to give it a try. Saw Sureset drop out a couple of times around 6:00. Shortly after, I hooked up again and did a hand off to my wife. It was a nice nook that she lost about 10 feet from the boat. She was bummed! Both hits on silver/chartruese Alvin.

It was dead for us as well. We started fishing about 11:30 and stopped at 7:15 without a single bite. I was anchored next to a couple of Ifisher's but were not close enough to conversate. I was next to you Chub for a while until you bugged out and was also next to a nice Alumaweld Mirage with a cooler reading Ifish.net Do You?
I hope it turns on soon....

I think it would go 40# look how long it is, it takes up two guys body width and their not holding it 2 feet out in front of them graemlins/icon_argue.gif .I know that FM 2 is a sure fire stright up Man of God and he would not say 40 unless he weighed it  . Nice fish FM 2 and good job putting him into it Husker.

did chinook landing yesterday in my friends boat. Had one take, long line release  . not much elese. He had done the 6am thing and got skunked: picked me up at 5pm. REcently i have noticed its been afternoon better than AM bite cause of the afternoon tide swings. SOme say next week the tides favor the AM again.

Tacklebuster,
That was me in the Alumaweld Mirage. I had my buddy and his wife with me. Neither one had ever caught a salmon. My boat has been hot, or so I thought, we have had fish in it 5 straight times out. My friend is cursed though when it comes to Salmon or Steelhead so that meant no fish for us either!
We fished 13 hours on Saturday not even a hit! 8 hours today up at the mouth of the deschutes and nada! :depressed: :depressed:
I need to get the skunk off my friend and fast or I will have to ban him from my boat. We will be back out to Frenchman's in the morning.

Shane,
I did the Frenchman's bar thing today and man was it DEAD! I hit the afternoon tide and saw 3 fish landed out of 30 plus boats. I was red hot to until the last two trips to Frenchman's. I think I'll wait till the bite picks back up again.

Yeah, but you know who dropped out twice today and killed two. Asaltor Spanky.

FM2 and Husker - you need to go look at a 36 posted under "Live Columbia Report" and then get some new scales. LOL. Nice fish though.
