For anyone heading over there today through Monday, there was a good bite going above the bridge on the washington side from 1 to 4 Friday afternoon...fish checker said that's where most of the day's fish came from, but people coming in (I had to work in the morning) said the morning bite was 7 to 9 at the sawdust pile, upriver on the ebb all the way to off town. we moved over there later and there was a pretty fair bite above and below the green can off warrenton. Saw lots of silvers, heard about more between 12 and 14 and saw a lot of snagged fish released. that was kind of cool to watch...no, we didn't get anything...very frustrating. tried all depths that the catchers told us and had the right stuff. found a banana and tossed it over the side, immediately catching (well, the 16-year-old did) and released a finned silver. couldn't understand it at all after that, since all the bananas were gone until he later pulled out dried banana chips...his mom wouldn't hand them over and Steve (her husband) didn't dare make her. sigh...
PS...yes, I was told about frenchmen's bar and at 10 p.m., coming home across 205, I saw 50-100 anchored boats off government island.

Funny story...

My son, Andrew, (Now insisting his name is not Andrew, it is, in fact, Krazzy Joe...) was having a teen moment.
He had heard the 'bite' at B 10 was really hot, a 'can't miss' kind of day. This, plus his reputation as a lucky angler, pushed him over the edge.
He also knows that Bill has a big thing about bananas on board. Bill Hedlund, not Monroe... Bill won't have them aboard, period!
Anyway, the trip was planned, and my sons, Andrew and David were invited along.
Andrew giggled, as he snuck a banana in his pocket before leaving, and whispered to me... "When I get my first salmon today, I'm going to fight it while eating this banana!" ha ha ha.... I played along...

So, we are fishing.... No bite.
Still fishing two hours later... no bite.
Still more hours.... no bite.

Pretty soon, I see a banana floating down river past the boat.

I looked back at Andrew.

Yip, he tossed it. We didn't get a bite ALL day long, either.

To add salt, a friend of Steve's used the same boat over there this morning...he was alone in the John Day parking lot at 6, was fishing by 7 upriver from the washington end of the bridge and was heading home with friends and five fish at 9...limits of coho...no bananas.
I'm heading for Diamond Lake (sorry Jennie)
