I was riding my bike through Wheeler on Friday afternoon. Saw one boat fight and lose a fish just below the marina, heard him talk to another boat just after that, who said he had hooked two in the corner there earlier in the day. At 4:00pm, not too many boats on the water. No guts on the ramp at the bridge.

Fished Sunday in front of wheeler from 6:30 until noon. Saw ONE fish hooked and landed. Marked a lot of fish by Kahrs dock and tried everything in the tackle box to no avail. There wasn't as many boats out as I expected.

Fished Monday 6:30 until noon. Started at Hole-in-the-Wall and then in front of Wheeler, boated a 10 lb Hen on a Tee spoon at 7:15 am. Marked a bunch of fish but they had moved out by the next pass. When up to Nehalem, again marked a bunch of fish that seemed to be hanging around. Again tried everything in the tackle box. Got several bites on a @%#$#%$ but they were biting short. Sorry no name for that lure yet, still trying to see if it has promise. Finally a fishing partner hooked one on a metallic green spin glow being trolled behind a Luhr Jensen diver. About a 3 minute fight, (this was his first time salmon fishing from a boat) and he said he lost it. Thats when we asked him why then was his line moving past the front of the boat? Reel up all the slack line and another minute of tussle and the fish got off.
I saw about 6 fish hooked all day with three fish boated. That red tide is really making things tough for the fish to see. Also the water is so warm (65 to 66 degrees) that I am sure those fish aren't doing much.

Fish checker said she had checked three fish total. Wasn't much of a crowd on Monday.

On Sunday be and a friend went down and watched the boats at the mouth from about 3:30 to 5 and we saw six fish hooked.

Two were crackered off, one was caught by a laddy reading a book and another boat caught three.

There were 23 boats fishing and but only about five looked like they knew what they were doing. The boat with three fish was one of them.

As for the "red tide" I think what you guys are seeing is the tanic acid coming down from tidewater.
