Got up at 4 this morning... (yawn)
Hit the Hammond ramp at about 6:15.
Winds were fairly calm.
Headed upriver on the Oregon Side, fishing with a pink diver, a red flasher and a whole herring.
(Why is the computer going up and down like a boat? I'm still moving!)
Fished the 30 foot line for a while, in front of Warrenton.
Nada, so I called David Johnson, and he said, "Come on up further!" So we did, and I'm glad we did! Thanks be to David, like the other threads!
It was fairly crowded, but not long after I put in, I hooked a chrome little silver, about 12 pounds that had a cute little fin. Released him.
Next fish? Not long after, a nice big 25 lb. buck, but he got loose at the boat.
Not long after.... a nice, chrome bright 18ish pound hen! Beautiful chromer! It stayed in the boat.
Then, not long after that, I hooked another! I lost it mid fight. Bummer. Checked my hook and it felt like the lead of a pencil. Not sharp at all! Is this the before hook or the after? Shame on my for not checking something so stupidly simple.
I spent the day laughing and talking via cell phone to David, then to Dennis Stewart, then Chris Sessions... It was fun! Lots of people on the water. Bob Rees was fun to see, of The Guides Forecast (http://www.theguidesforecast.com/)
Bill, however, is on some kind of discouraging cold streak. I felt so guilty, I was amost praying my rod wouldn't go off again!
Finally, his went off, and it was a jack, not even big enough to be legal. :depressed:
Dang! Ever tried to live around a guy who hasn't caught fish lately? It's not easy.
Funny, though, it's not like I have much to do with catching these fish. I was busy parking the trailer when HE rigged us both up. All I did was pull the line out, and set it in the rod holder! So, I tried to pacify him with that fact. He did all the work. He got me into the fish. He did!
Nonetheless, life can be cruel when the fish don't bite your hook. It's no fun, I've BEEN THERE! ...and he knows it's no fun to be around a gal who doesn't catch for a while. We've all been there.
Good fishing to you this weekend!

Side sad note: On the way home, there was a terrible accident in Bay City. I'm not quite sure what happened, but I think a pedestrian was hit and it didn't look good. The roads were all closed into Tillamook. Poor tourists didn't know how to get through the back way through Bay City, and the side roads back there were nuts!
-- Also, on the way home, some idiot passed us, with an oncoming vehicle pulling a travel trailer coming right at him. IDIOT! The poor guy in the travel trailer just about lost it. He had to swerve way over and we thought he would jack knife... He was OK, but I'm sure he was breathing heavily.
Please.... Be careful out there!

One more side note-- Some of the people out there driving boats around are nuts! Bill had to honk his horn twice at people coming RIGHT at us!
Then, at the end, we were totally out of the shipping channel, but a huge commercial fishing vessel was too! Every way we turned, he came right at us!!! So, Bill says, "Pick um up! We are moving!" We never reeled so fast in our lives!
Figured out, finally, that there were so many sports fishermen in the channel, that he thought it safer to go around, and out of the channel.
I mean, the channel was PACKED!
I'm sure he thought he was doing the right thing, but it's no fun looking up to see a towering vessel coming right at you when you are under nothing but trolling power!!!

Got to Warrenton around 7:00 fished buoy
29, no luck went to the Wash side below the
bridge and I landed a 25 lb.URB, then another
take down, missed it, then another handed
the rod to my friend and he landed a 25 lb.
Tule, looked good but you know the rest of
the story, three more take downs then finally
the third party landed a nice 8 lb.clipped Silver.
Beautiful day and the early bite gave my friends in another boat 12 take downs and
8 fish landed with two released total of three
fishermen.

Looking forward to next week.
