Hi All, I'm new to the ifish community -- really looks like a first rate discussion group. I wanted to pass along my best story as an intro (all true).

I was fishing with my brothers-in-law out of Tofino, B.C. for kings in August a few years ago. I had just landed a nice 30 #er, and the downriggers were up. We're cleaning up when I notice there's a fishing line wrapped around one of my downrigger balls. I look behind us, expecting to see someone yelling -- but there's no one close by. I go to reset the line -- but decide to pull on the line and see if a lure is attached. I hand it to my brother-in-law, and he starts pulling it up. Low and behold up comes a fishing pole! He reels in and low and behold, there's a fish on that line! The fish is tired, so we quickly net a 25 #er!

We figure later that a group of locals had been out fishing, with some kids on board -- and one had the rod yanked out of their hands. The fish was dragging the gear around, and we happened to cross the line with our downrigger.

How's that for a *true* fishing story?

I've always imagined that happening, but never actually heard of it. What a bonus!

Welcome aboard, Paul!

Where do you do most of your fishing now?

Yea, the story is always a hoot. I fish out of Ilwaco, Westport, and in Puget Sound (out of Everett and Mukilteo) for silvers. Long Beach and Ilwaco are a good family vacation spot for us in August -- my 11 yr old daughter landed a nice 20 lber this year. So she's hooked!

So there IS hope that I may get my yellow po' & Senator 4/0 back afterall! It was snatched by something huge last weekend while tuna fishing. It broke the pole holder and my rig went sailing into the prop wash. This happened about 30 miles off Depoe Bay. We figure it was either a bluefin or a billfish. Same thing happened to Uglygreen not 5 minutes later! Lesson learned: Check your own gear before it fishes... make sure the drag is loose enough to peel line instead of the pole holder!

While fishing trout at Clear Lake 2 weekends ago, one of the guys reeled in 2 beautiful brookies that had apparently been caught and "released"... leaders & hooks in their mouths. Someone apparently had a difficult time with their knots :hoboy:

Welcome aboard. Nice story.

Last year fishing above tounge point I landed a 49 " stergeon that had been tied off to a 5 foot rope. I caught the rope about a foot from the end.
Kept the rope and turned the fish back.

There must be something about that area. About 10 years ago my father and I were on a charter boat for 3 days out of Ucuelet. There was a small oriental man who fished hard for 2 ½ days with out a bump, even bottom fishing. The last day in the afternoon someone noticed this guy fighting a fish just as quiet as can be. He ends up landing the fish, a beautiful 35 lb Chinook, which was the largest of the trip. The funny thing is the hook on the jig he was using was not hooked into the fish. The fish has been hooked at some point by another angler who had lost the fish and the lure still remained in the fish’s mouth. His hook had hooked the split ring of the lure still in the fish’s mouth. No on board had every heard of such a thing.
