I don't know if I read it on the board, or was told by someone, that URB's don't have eggs in them, or at least they aren't very developed. I know this is the case with springers.
Caught a 27# hen today out at Frenchmen's Bar and it was full of nice small (1/8") eggs. It was not a tule. It had nice bright orange flesh from head to tail. We caught lots of fish last August down around Kalama and they had similar sized eggs and bright flesh.
What's the scoop? Inquiring minds want to know.

Darn right they have eggs! I cured a quart of eggs between the wifes fish and the folks 3 fish from sunday. They were about 3x the size of springer eggs and looked good to me. I'll use them under a bobber in a couple of weeks.

Nice chatting with you today.

BR - Seems to be a lot more variation in the maturity of the fish this year. In a 3 week span I saw eggs from pin head to 1/4" in the Silvers.
Like the runs, the spawn time varies but less so. Most of the Chinook spawn in Oct-Nov, the "Christmas Chinook" (identified by their red noses) spawn later.
I'm not as familiar with the Silver Spawns, but I believe it is the same case.
Steelhead seem to have more variation. I've caught Steelhead the first of June that I thought were summers, a little pink on the sides ( ) and then found they were chalk full of very large mature eggs (this was back when you could keep natives). Mother nature has her ways. When you figure her out let me know. I'm still working on it ( and hope to forever). Just when you think you've got them figured out, they change their minds! graemlins/stupid.gif

I have found that only about half of the fish have eggs, the other half were males. Now seriously I have found that the up river brights eggs are about the right size 3`rd week in sept. until 2`nd week in oct. after that I select carefully.

My hen today had about a pint of eggs.
GoThey look like well developed steelhead eggs. They even have the color for it!

The fish was beautiful, belly fat, perfect keeper!  May not be huge, but I'd much rather have a good eater than huge!
I'm a happy camper... MMMMMMM DIN DIN!

Hmmm, Do they have eggs??
Yessss!!! I have cured up 14 pints in the last week and these little jars of GOLD, Will be highly prized on them springers. Can anyone yell BOBBER DOWN!

Am being very selective to size of egg, about 3/16 to 1/4 inch. No BB's. Next 4 + weeks are my egg gathering Days!!
