After seeing the post on the Tuff Line and Power Pro,thought maybe I could get some help on this one.Put 80# Power Pro on my Penn 321GTI about 3 months ago at Joes. After about 2 weeks of fishing with it ,the reel would crank but not take any line in.Thought the drag had gone south ,took it back to Joes.Guy there said they had put the line on wrong, too loose and it was not catching on the reel.OK,he fixed it ,put it back on the reel supposedly the right way and yesterday the same thing happened, turns but don't pick up.Now I really don't want to keep going back to solve this problem,so any help would be appreciated on this.

Take it off and put mono backing. You won't need much but straight braided will slip on the spool. You can also tape the braided around the spool after tying your knot to the spool.
Had the same thing happen to me.

tie a nice tight knot on your reel
#2
wind it tight(i mean tight)i wind mine as though i am reeling in a stump.or you can take it out on day one and tie it to a 20oz+ weight and drive up river tell the line runs out and start cranking..tight means no slips and no line digging in to the side of the spool to form a knot

i would never let the dorks at any store spool my reels

JCJ,
I have been using 80# Power Pro for over 2 years with no slippage problems. I have about 30 yards of 150# mono as backing on 2 large saltwater reels.

I take my reels out to the pasture (school yard should work) and reel my son in keeping the line extremly tight. I also have dacron backing and it seems to work.

I recently tried the 50 lb. power pro on a Shimano Calcutta reel trolling a diver and herring at Buoy 10. Because the line has little or no stretch, I had to tighten the drag down almost all the way to keep line from playing off the reel. Mono apparently stretches and keeps the stress on the drag at a minumum. I noticed my drag was much looser on the reels with mono on them. It was a pain tightening the drag down that much and I think I'm going to stick with mono.

The calcutta is a great reel, but the drags are so smooth that the diver problem is a predictable one. Make sure you are using a firm enough rod to not arc all the way down to put pressure on the reel instead of the properly on the spline. I like 15-40 lb test Calstar fiberglass rods for B 10 diver work and the long graphite Lami's for mooching with banana wieghts.

I've been running either a braided dacron or 20 lb. mono for backing and I've never had a reel slippage problem. But, in total agreement with everyone else, wind it on TIGHT, like your winching your 4 wheel drive out of the Hammond ramp at a -8 ft tide. I might have a few layers of mono behind my dacron backing too. It's been to long so I don't really remember.

Had the same problem, so I don't let anyone else put my line on now. I get what I need and put it on myself.

You can put on mono backing to keep it from spinning on your spool. But, the best trick I have found is to wrap your bare spool with some of that sticky/spongy bandage tape they use on you after you give blood. The braided will bury in the stuff and will not budge later.

Had the same problem with some spiderline on a spinning reel. The only way to get it to work right was to put the line on as tight as possible. It really affected it when there was water on the spool. It really left a bad taste in my mouth, so I switched back to mono.

Orca I like your idea. This must have been a problem for my grandfather on an old real I got for my grandmother after he passed away. It sat for a few years when I decided to pull it out and use it again in his honor. When I pulled off the old mono he had white sticky tape at the start of the line.
Always like things that remind me of my granddad.

same problem here, all I did was put adrop of superglue at the first crank of line on the spool and it's not gonna slip ever again. You can tie mono on too, but it's lots faster to just put a drop of glue and start crankin.
