Posts earlier this week were saying there was no parking avail at the launches if you arrived after sunrise.

How has it been lately at Warrington and Hammond? Is there parking within walking distance to the ramp?

I was planning on my first trip this season Friday and don't want to be disappointed by not being able to even launch.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Two words - East Basin. Either that or get to Hammond or Warrenton very early!

There is parking. I think Jennie only can walk in rivers with waders!

But it is true like anywhere the earlier you get there the shorter the walk.

On Sunday morning we got to Chinook, WA at about 7 and launched at 8:30. While waiting in line everyone kept saying how much BETTER it was than on Saturday! But even then I parked the equivalent of three blocks away so it isn't like it was that bad.

On Monday we launched at Hammond at about 5:45 and hardly had to wait in line except at the top of the ramp when other boats didn't clear out of the docks. But it got crowded after that. We pulled out early, when most rigs were still parked and I saw no rigs outside the Hammond launch parking area.

Weekends are worse for sure though!

Thanks blackdog.

Not familiar with that launch. Where abouts is it?

Its on the east side of Astoria, right on the main highway (30 I think) heading towards Knappa and Clatskanie. It's just past the Sentry Market grocery store. As far as I know, there aren't any bait stands nearby, but the launch is free and generally not too crowded. However, be cautious running from the basin across to the bridge, as there are definetly areas to avoid (sandbars) at low tide. Following someone out the first time would maybe be wise.

scary - there's a LOT of parking space at Hammond. Precious little at Warrenton. I'll take my walkin' shoes. Maybe I need a bike?

my thoughts exactly.....take your bike.....if u have to park a few blocks away ride it back to the ramp.....save a few hours of sleep and save a walk.....ride your bike...

I have no idea what kind of boat you have, but if you use the East Basin ramp, you should probably follow someone out that you know and mark the route with a GPS to get you back at low tide, in particular on a minus tide series.

Lots of easy parking and bathrooms, but you have to get your bait in town if you want it fresh.

Just a word of warning, the East Basin ramp is closed Saturday morning between about 4:30 and 5:30 (depending on what time we get there)...I would probably drive right by and try the Skipanon ramp or Hammond...

I REPEAT, THE EAST BASIN LAUNCH WILL BE CLOSED FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR TO AN HOUR SATURDAY MORNING...DO NOT GO THERE!!!

Launched at Warrenton about 8AM yesterday. Not crowded at the launch at that time but had to walk a little ways back. I usually let my dad take the boat around to the mooring spot, there's a ramp to a small dock where he picks me up and then drops me off when we come back in. I would suggest going early to get a closer spot, I had to park on the road. :depressed:
