My youngest son Devon (22 years old) not only landed his first steelhead tonight BUT caught it flyfishing on the Deschutes and on a flyrod I built for him. Nice little hatchery hen that he decided to release because of the long distance back to the car.
I will post a picture as soon as I can but I am mighty proud of my boy.
Green Butt Skunk was the fly BTW.
...who says you can't live vicariously through your kids

You CAN live vicariously through your kids! I can only imagine how proud you must be. Even I am proud of Devon. What a priceless memory ... first steelie on a fly ... on a rod Dad built. Excellent!

Same to ya Rick and Linda! I would love to get you into your first jig caught steelhead. If Mark and RT hadn't helped me it would have been a long time before I caught mine.

Way to go Devon your first steelhead. Theres nothing like it, when it first hits and then you set the hook on her then all hell brakes loses. That first run, and then your hart really starts pumping. And then when you get it in all the showing off that you do. Very nice cant wait to see that picture. good job

He did'nt decide he liked fishing until last year so I suppose better late than never. He had hooked fish before but had not landed anything. My oldest son (28 years) lives on the Alsea river catches a bunch of fish but still hits the old man up for his cured eggs any chance he gets.

Thats awesome Shane, my first steelie was also on the Deschutes.

Its a beautiful thing. Father and son sharing the joys of fishing together.

You and Devon will have that memory forever.

If more Dads spent time on the rivers with their kids, our would be a better place.

Hi Shane, My grandson is also named Devon. The problem is he is only about a year anf half old. I guess my Devon will have to wait a little longer.

Congrats.

Don't forget to include me in that coastal jig fishing with Rick and Linda.

Wish I clould have made it to Wisers last saturday but had another commitment at the KOA in Hammond.
