I acquired my wife's old sewing machine. The gears in it were unrepairable so I scrounged the motor and the foot pedal as well as some of the more useful looking gears.
It is my intent to make a lathe/drying machine out of it for building rods with.
What I need to do is to locate some pulleys to gear it down. I am figuring if I can gear it slow enough I can just run it straight without the pedal in the loop and then when I am running it as a lathe (for cork handles) I can utilize the pedal.
Anyone have ideas for sources for pulleys, wheels, and gears? Has anyone tried this before?

An old rotissery(sp?) motor works best for drying.

Eric,
I don't think you need to use any pulleys to slow it down. The motor in a sewing machine is variable speed and you could just replace the foot switch with a variable speed switch (potentiometer switch) so you could set it at what ever speed you wish and it will stay there. Just be sure you get a switch for the voltage you will be operating it at (110 volt).

Just a thought...............
