Over the weekend I heard about a combo Anchovie and Hoochie rig. Does anyone know how this goes together?

Cooter there may be variations, but essentially it is a double hook mooching rig with the whole anchovie (or herring, whole or plug cut) on the hooks. Take the hoochie and slide it down the leader from the top, so the skirt lays over the anchovie. Some people will string up a corkie ahead of the hoocie and stuff it into the head of the hoochie. Most people I know will use a dodger with these to get some movement on the bait.
Good luck.
BTW... I think there is an article on this in the current issue of STS (Salmon Trout Steelheader). You can pick up a copy at most Safeways.

Always kinda wondered about the benefit of adding a hoochie while fishing fresh bait in the saltchuck. I know they will work...I've seen it work frequently. But my way of figuring it is that these lil' fish grew up eating baitfish, so why would they be more interested in eating a meal that's wearing a rubber toupe'?
Now, I know up north there are some places with runs of salmon (pinks?) that almost exclusively feed on squid. So, in that case, dragging a purple rubber skirt behind a dodger might be the ticket. But for most of our fishin', I would think that the most natural bait and presentation would be the best.
Hoochies are kinda purdy!
I almost exclusively fish hoochies in the ocean.. with either a shad strip or a chunk of herring.. or anchovie.. I pull the anchovies tight with a sliding front hook so the spin.. w/ a geen and white hoochie.. their killer~

Hogtide,
I've opened up silvers before that were stuffed with squid. It's always a good idea to check what's in the stomach of your fish. You'd be surprised with what you find. The best colors for me have to be pink, purple, green/chartruse and my number one favorite green/glow. I normally fish chunk herring on a single hook with a corkie or hoochie bullet slid up the body of the hoochie. The big advantage is you get 4 baits per herring. It works like dynamite.
For a little more detail here's a little something I put together. http://www.xprt.net/~ryandsar/tips/ocoho.html

Any preference on what size dodger/flasher and what size hoochie for this anchovie/hoochie setup? Great idea being able to get 4 baits per herring. I went through 5 dozen herring in 3 hours on Sunday! Talk about bait stealers!
