Really nice of you to do that, Killer.
The only thing that concerns me about what you wrote is that if you are not putting any kind of presevative on the eggs prior to freezing them, the yolks expand and break when they freeze.
Then when trying to preserve them later they tend to come out looking like rasberry jelly.
I'm sure FM2 (since he was first he gets first claim, right?) would happily buy some pro-cure or whatever he likes and you could sprinkle some of that on top as you bag them. They can be finished curing and drying later, but it would make a huge difference on the finished quality of the eggs.
Just a suggestion....
PS - Killer, I'll trade ya trips sometime in the red sled and then you can see why people are jumping on the egg offer! Much messier way to fish, but bobbers and back bouncing are tons o' fun!
I would take any in case you wanted to split them up. I would also SHARE with anyone also including you FM2
Eggs seem to bring out the baser instinct in people don't they?

The devil made me do this.... I, and no one else lay claim to the bounty of eggs. he he he........ FM2 has no time to cure eggs. He is just a plain greedy wildlife horder. Would'nt even hand off a Fish to Neutron Saturday and left me totally fishless and starving.
This has nothing to do with being Christian. It has everything to do with honesty and integrity. FM2 says he will even throw in smoked salmon (from 2 years ago that is) :hoboy:
The rest of you are undesevering of eggs.
I will pick them up the night you call, No charge. No bribes. Just honesty.

Well, there's 5 responses, including Jen. Let's keep it at that - I got 3 other emails too. I'll save them all in order of appearance and when I get a good enough batch, I'll contact FM2 1st - if he doesn't want them anymore, I'll go to #2 on the list, etc. Hogtide - thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if they needed any special prep. I don't want this to become a major project for me, but if it's as simple as sprinkling some pro-cure on them, I'll buy a bag and whomever picks them up can bring me a bag of pro-cure in exchange. FM2 - I'll send you an e-mail and ask how you want me to freeze them for you. If I get a lot of them in the next couple of weeks, I'll divvy them up among each of you.

Catch and eat and Ken Drifter - you both jumped in while I was typing my last post. I'll add you two to my contact list as well. Ken - that's another reason I don't have room for eggs - I've probably got 200 lbs of smelt! Thanks guys for the interest - I'm actually glad that they won't go to waste this year.
Thanks killertraylor, your my new best friend

Lepper - I'd take you up on your offer, but your GPS note on the bottom of your post has me a little concerned... graemlins/1zhelp.gif
This puts the pressure on me to take more time off work and get some big hen Chinook!
Are Coho eggs worth saving too? Should I keep them separate from the Chinook eggs or does it matter?

Killer -
Coho eggs are definitely worth saving as long as they are mature.
They can be really effective for springers.
And no problem mixing them with 'nooks in the same bag, FM2 or whomever gets them can sort them later.
One other thing too, about my pro-cure suggestion. You can just buy clear, and whoever gets them can add more and color it however they want them when they finish processing them. That way it will be really little fuss for you, and no one will give you a hard time about having pink hands!
When you get that elk, BTW, I will be happy to help you out by taking some backstrap off your hands so you'll have plenty of room for your smelt in the freezer.

How embarrassing...look at all of the groveling and kaniving for a few pounds of sticky red eggs. You all should be ashamed! Anyway K-T, since we are same-town, same-crib, down the road neighbor type nearly brothers.. when you think about it...Just delete this post and I'll be by with my big 'egg' coooler as soon as you get home.
That way we will have some bait for those trips we are planning in my sled on the Lewis and Cowlitz, as I bring fresh coffee and donuts each morning and professionally fillet and care for your catch, and frequently compliment you on your prowess as a fisherman and all -around good looks
Now delete this...delete this thread. I said :depressed:

You're right Hogmaster! Sorry about that. I have to say that Hogtide's post put the biggest smile on my face. I've already worked out some plans with FM2 to come get them fresh - that works best for me too as I don't have to mess with them. That also means that it might not always be convenient for him to stop by and get them within 24 hours, so I've printed this thread and I'll let the others know if I've got any available that FM2 can't get. There's got to be others out there like me that don't use eggs (or maybe I'm the only idiot who hasn't tried bobber fishing?) and now they know there are plenty of guys to give them to.

Every year I have several people tell me to save salmon eggs and they'll drive 100 miles if necessary to come get them - every year I end up with 6-10 one gallon bags of them in the freezer and throw them away to make room for deer or elk when nobody shows up. I don't fish with eggs, or know how to cure them for that matter, but I'll keep them for anyone who wants them. I'll even take some special precautions to keep them in good shape if someone wants to fill me in on how to freeze them right. Right now I just put them in gallon ziplock bags, squish the air out and freeze them.
I've got a bag started from the three big hens we got at Buoy 10 last weekend - one of the fish had real nice big eggs and the other two were smaller, but all 3 fish were over 25 lb so they are decent sized skeins. If history repeats itself, I should have several more in the next couple of weeks. I live in Warren (right next to St. Helens) and if you want to give me your e-mail addresses, I'll e-mail you when I have 3 or 4 bags of them and you can come get them. I'm not sure how popular this offer will be - seems to me most guys here probably have salmon eggs coming out their ears, but let me know if you're serious about driving out to get them and I'll happily save them for you.
Joe
