Total tally for the boys today was five steelhead - one long line release, one nate as big as the kept one, and three bonked. They used X4 orange flatfish, 22 feet deep, back-bounced. One hot rod - so they shared it.

Fish checker said it was the biggest steelhead seen yet.

Fishalot: My Oak Grove is between Portland and Oregon City. So may 30ish minutes for us.

Yeah...it lit up pretty good yesterday.

After setting "The line"...I had to listen to..."Do you have more rope?"

Guess I may have been in the right spot after all....we did 3 steelies...two chinook.

Good day!!!! Nothin after noon tho.

Man,

We were out yesterday but couldn't get a bump, nary a single tap for three rods, all morning and into the afternoon!

We were in that depth (and deeper) even fished the X4, F4s and X5s, along with a gaggle of Alvins.

Saw a few, but just a few caught, off the Sandy mouth.

STG, you were back trolling while back bouncing? Or just bouncing on anchor? And downstream or upstream of the landing?

Gotta figure out the fishery!

Good job, all!

It was husband and best fishing buddy. I stayed home and did laundry
They bounced on anchor downstream between the wing dams.

We hit a couple of fish on saturday out of chinook landing. A 25# chinook and a 9# clipped fin steelhead. Nice to finally get some in the boat. This warm water has made it a bit difficult, at least for me. Can't say that I have seen very many caught either. This rain may help.

FishinMission- We were fishing close by to you Sat morning and were wondering what kind of small spinners you were using. Are they store bought or homemade?

FishinMission
08-06-2002, 01:45 PM
Bill....Those were #124 Flash Glo's......commercially built by Worden's...I think...about $2 apiece.

They're usually "Out of Stock" at Fisherman's..and GI Joes doesn't carry them.

You probably can special order them, tho, at either place, or....from a supplier who can order from All Sports.

The nice thing about them spinners is that BOTH nookies and steelies will suck 'em up.

Use one of them with a 34" inch dropper...and you should see some action. Be "geared" for a chinook...

Bill,
I was in Fisherman's last week and they had them in stock. Looked like they must have just gotten a shipment. There were a bunch. I picked up a couple.

Hurry in there before Fishin Mission gets there...

Steve

Mark... Didn't want to let any of your secrets go, but now that you did....

MF85-

You keep asking the same thing on different days. Check the thread you started yesterday. Many people answered, obviously something worked for you today. Here's my answer from yesterday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a real rocket science fishery.
Find the boats, drop the pick and wait. Depth depends on what you are fishing for. 16-22 for steelies, deeper for the nooks. Smaller spinners and flatfish for shallower water, bigger lures like alvins out a little deeper. Experiment with scents. Droppers like Mission said, leader similar length too.

Ian Premo and I boated a 26 # nook in 40' of water, and also marked several fish traveling today.Saw a better bite happen in 16 ' of water while we were fishing 40'.

Keep in mind the nets are in this week, so fishing is a little slow around Chinook landing compared to a week ago. We should feel full effects of netting by the weekend and thru most of next week.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Today's ( 8/8) nate came in 22' of water with a heavily scented flatfish. We fished 2 rods for 3 or four hours.

Chris
