Hey all, heard today from one of the hatchery workers there that it is going to be shut down Oct 1st. A meeting is going to be held this next week to make the decision. PLEASE call your lower Columbia legislators and tell them this sucks. Most of them are businessmen from the region and relate to them how much decisions like this are going to hurt them in the future without fishing as a reason to get people there. Without hatcheries, we wouldn't have fish to fish for now to keep. Also, I heard that if the Elochoman hatchery stays open, the Green River hatchery will be shut down. This hatchery was devastated by Mt. St. Helens and now is producing good numbers of salmon to allow a fishery. Speak to them about this also. These rivers are close and dear to me as I grew up on them and even caught my first steelhead on the Elochoman and salmon on the Green. Thanks all. graemlins/berry.gif
