Hi ifishers..

I've got an old 16' flatbottom alumaweld sled with a 35 hp prop & kicker i want to use to fish on the lewis &/or cowlitz rivers, but i am not sure where i can take the old beast (and i knew ifish would be the place to ask). Any info would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about the Cowlitz, but the Lewis is running at 1,500 CFS right now. You could conceivably fish the golf course stretch, but you would not be able to launch easily with a prop at that put-in. Keep an eye on the flow rate (800-547-1501) and when the level gets above 2,500 or thereabouts you can launch at the golf course and have about a mile of prime water to fish, with good salmon and steelhead spots.

BigBeanCounter the cowlitz is running 2800cfs as I type this and is too low to run a prop...you'd never make the corner at the top of the clay banks.
The only time you see many props up river around Blue creek and Barrier dam.. is when it's over 10,000 cfs,.. do see a few more on the lower river where it has less elev. drop and water is slower in lower flows...use caution always

I would say fish the North Fork of the Lewis River down at the Cedar Creek fishing hole. You can get out there with no problem at all right now with the flows the way they are and just fish the hole right out in front of the boat ramp fishing eggs on bottem or fishing just up 50 yards fishing the water fall with bobber and jig or eggs. The flows now are at 1610 cfs. The steelhead are being taken.

Tidewater on the Lewis! Launch at Pekins and head for the mouth. Easy Access to the Columbia and Sand Island. I do it in my Driftboat with a 5 horse!

If you launch at Pekin Ferry and return at low tide you had better be ready to row or walk the boat back upstream. Right now at low tide there is little water to motor back to Pekin Ferry using either a prop or jet.
