Going to hit Newport Tomorrow in a buddy's boat. He has a 19 foot Sylvan with a 90 horse Merc. It is an open bow but I had him put his bow cover on with Stuff inside the bow to give a slight lift to the cover to help put the water back into the drink if it decides to come over.

I don't think we will venture out to the pile in his boat. We will probably hang just a couple miles out of the light house hoping to find some willing nooks close to the surface. Anyone doing any good in that general area? Does any of you have any recomendations for bottom fish spots in that area? I have never really been out in that area so will probably stay close to the bay and hope for the best.

I've have'nt done that one yet but I would bet there will plenty of boats not going to the rockpile, I'd just fall in line with them or when you get out just look around and join someone else, most people tend to like a "buddy boat" around. Bring some binoculars and "choose" who you want to follow. (someone catching fish)

a couple miles south and slightly west of the jetties is usually good for a bunch of blacks. I've tried the lighthouse a few times and haven't done that well for the bottomfish... Joe
