I think that new store in Tillamook suck*. The guys that run it are dorks, sorry that's just my .02! Just stopped in after Oyster House bumper boat ride to check it out. Kimmels is still my choice.
Btw...saw 10 fish for around 100 boats yesterday. Something like that. Kinda slow.

I love the sign which advertises "New Rods and Reels Below Cost". Either they are not telling the truth or they will soon be having a going-out-of-business sale.

I thought that sign was kinda funny too. However they are open at 5am instead of 8am. The Guide Shop is open early also, and they do serve a nice breakfast. No reason to get too excited, shop where you want too. Relax and have a good time. I'm more concerned on the lack of quality restaurants in the area. Anybody have a secrect food spot let me know.

My kithcen, so far, is our favorite place to eat in Tillamook. Due to lack of good restaraunt fare, + the time it takes to drive somewhere, I have learned to cook chinese food, mexican food and everything in between!
Not that we are open for biz, but just to say I agree. Tillamook needs a couple great places. Maybe I just don't know about them, please tell if you know!
Garabaldi has some neat places though.

Tillamook Sporting Goods..........Stink!
The owner and the manager both don't have a clue.
I even spent an 8 hr shift "working" there.
Never again.
My money is spent elsewere! The Guide Shop opens early and don't forget Tillamook Bait!

I agree with you Big Willie, they are dorks. I feel like I'm at a used car lot. They're watching your every move and if you even glance at a product they're right there trying to demo it for you! Drove me nuts! Felt like telling them to sit down, shut up, and put decent prices on the items and I'll buy them from you! A lot of their stuff you could order over the internet and have it shipped from Katmandu, Africa for less money!

I have found L.V., the new manager at Kimmels to be VERY helpful and is really trying to turn that store around. Plus there open at 5:00 am as well!!

I went into this store to pick up a couple of last minute things for crabing and the clerk was trying to sell me a fishing rod. I didn't think much of it, but then my buddy went in there to buy a pair of boots and the guy had a sales pitch going on his knivies.
Oh well, I guess he's a trying to make a living.

Damn good fishing in Katmandu. Tenbucktoo has great fishing. Can't beat fishing for Marlin in Kokomo.

Speaking of The new sporting goods store don't you just love the way the manager humiliates his employees I mean in front of customers. I sure feel sorry for all his employees who have to put up with that jack@ss all the time.

Rods and reels below cost? Does this mean they would sell me a GL3 loomis for the GL2 price? I could put up with alot of clueless store clerks for that!
Haven't tried that store and probably won't now that I'm educated. Winter kill will take care of it.
Good restaurants? Try Otis cafe. It's pretty far out for a Tillamook trip but worth a stop any old time. The clam chowder rules!

I dont live around t-bay but where i live we got sportco and those guys are dumber then rocks. I asked them how to fish a river for kings and the guy told me to use corkey and yarn with 2/0 hooks and jerk when gever it feel like a bite. I asked him what a bite would feel like and he said that the bottom goes tic....tic.....tic and a bite goes tictictic. now I know alot about fishing to know that for the river i was going to be fishing a guy would not wat to use any thing over a #2 vision hook and some eggos wit some pencile lead. THe kings in the river i was fishing dont run very big so you dont need heavy line I only use 10lb main 10 leader and I have about a 75-85% landing rate. Not counting this year. Just my $.31 http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Man, you're reminding me of Navy food. Hominy is to be avoided in all forms as well as Okra!
Now Hush Puppies with fried catfish would be gooooodd, you're on the right track Os.

I have heard that the owner to this store is also the person who is responsible for the new(last few years) signs that we see in the two bit hole. Not too fisherman friendly. It's just too bad that "his" hole has filled in. This and other things that I have heard from people I respect means that I will not spend my money in that store. It's Kimmels or Pete's for me. As for good food, Cedar Bay has a lemon pepper halibut that I just love. Its 12 bucks, so I dont eat it often, but I always feel that I have gotten my moneys worth. Salad, vegi tray, baker and halibut to die for. Ate it again just last week, must have been prom nite judging by the dress of my fellow diners.

Hey, just got back from my trip up the 101 coast with the kids. Thought I'd check out the tackle shops on the way. MAN!!!! I'm glad I came prepared. I couldn't check out everyshop, but most on way. I wish I woulda packed up all my gear and started selling, could've made a big profit.
Yes, I too went to Tillamook Sporting Goods. I didn't have much luck fishing the rivers (well it's hard to bankfish with a 3 yo and a 6 yo you're fishing with). I thought i'd check it out. Man, talk about ego's/idiots. I had just left my fishing vacation to go on my "family" vacation. The fishing was hot and silvers were thick and kings/chums were just starting to stack up. As I was talking to these guys in Tillamook Sports about leaving hot fishing for slow fishing on the coast. One guy quite literally acted like I was full of s#*& and didn't know how to fish at all. The guy I assume was owner kept trying to sell me "their" brand of fishing pole. Like it was greatest thing on earth. I guess Maurado makes them with their names on it. I kept trying to tell him I was perfectly happy with my Kunnan's, Lami's, and G Loomis's but he insisted I needed one of his. Oh well. Had fun on the coast though. Got to sit through a few storms and had fun with the kids.

This post is for Tillamook Sporting Goods:
You see, I went in a couple weeks ago and one of the employee's asked me if I had posted something about the store on the internet. I told him I had and then he produced a copy of this thread. Now it seems to me that with just the replies on this post they might wake up and change thier ways, but I guess not according to the other posts that continue to pile up on here.
Oh well, reputation is everything!
Seems like a waste of a perfectly fine sporting goods store though! Too bad!

To the top.
One thing positive: the owner did donate money to keep the hatcheries open.
However, when we called for donations for the school band.... CLICK! They hung up!
