I have always heard that this has happened, but I have never seen it until now.
A guide (we'll let him go unnamed) hooked up right infront of us, and about 1/2 through the battle, s monster sealion came up and grabbed the fish, in the process, the sealion ended up with the hook in his snount.

This all took about 15 minutes.. the funny thing was this little boat w/ the white top, you cansee in the back ground kept racing over the top of the sealion, I'm sure thinging the sealion would let go of the fish, not knowing until later that the sealion had actually hooked himself.

Yeah, that guide can get kinda grumpy!!

We saw two older gents chase a monster fish for about 5 minutes last Sunday until a sealion got it. Might frustrating, that's for sure!! I've never lost a fish to a seal or sea lion in the bay, but seals have got me twice up the river!!

Great picts TH, I'm living vicariously through you!!

So, are sea lions catch-and-release or ??

I can think of a few guys who'd volunteer do so some pinniped fin-clipping.

So Mel finally hooked a sealion using those gold spinners! A few years ago my wife had a big Stellar snatch the fish just as I was bout to do a net job. He took off for the bar...it was a lost cause and a lost 25lber.

Oh no...don't head back for work!...our in-service is Aug. 26th this year. Seems to get earlier every year. dang lost focus, zealot administrators.

Good Lookin' crew Travis!

the seal let go of the fish, after it realized that he was hooked.. the fish looked pretty trashed!
The guide broke the seal off ASAP.
