Vernonia Pond is just on the other side of the coastal range from ya. I've heard that it can be very productive and fun.

There are quite a few around.
By Astorville you have Cullaby, Smith and Coffenberry.
There is Lost Lake just up the South Fork of Nehalem past Spruce Run Park.
Lake Lytle and Smith Lake in Rockaway.
The lake at Cape Meares.
Check the ODFW website or call the Nehalem Hatchery to find out which ones have been stocked recently.
Then just relax and spend your time baiting hooks, tieing knots and pulling those kids out of the water. graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Near Tillamook, you could fish
Lake Lytle = Dock to fish from on HWY 101 side, boat ramp on other side of lake.
Cape Meares Lake = Unique lake sitting just feet from the ocean on one side and bay on the other side that is a fresh water lake. Bass and Trout.
Lake tahoe = very small lake with bank access out in the forest. Located up the south fork of the trask probably 10 miles past the park.
Spring lake = near lake lytle, I have never fished this lake
Smith lake = just north of Garibaldi, access from the Rail road tracks along HWY101
And if you are adventureus you could sneak into skookum lake just south and east of tillamook well up in the surrounding hills. It is the watershed and no access is allowed. Fishing is fantastic as long as you dont get caught. Even if you are caught fishing is still good. Probably not a good thing to teach the grandkids. Unless you want them to think of you that way

I spent today with my three sons and their cousin fishing Brownsmead slough in our skiff with the electric motor. We had a great time knocking down dozens and dozens of bluegill and perch, with a few largemouth bass for good measure.
I caught a big bucketmouthin the 3+ lb. range. The biggest bass I have landed so far....it was a kick.
This area is about 15 miles east of Astoria. It has ok bank access and a couple of very unimroved launch sites. Your boat has to be light since you will certainly be launching by hand.
Good luck!
