We tried to get out around 5:45 and got turned away by the Coast Guard. So we went and collected some clams until the ebb calmed. After that went right out around 6:45. We got to the 200 foot line and no more than 10 seconds after the down rigger was set, fish on! That fish ended up breaking my 30 lb test. After that we quickly got our limit in less than an hour and a half. One Coho and three Chinooks. One of the Chinooks came up to the surface and rolled on the hearing as we were letting line out to set the down rigger, very exciting!!!

Dang, I was looking at the ocean reports thinking "today is the day"! Congrats on your success. Glad to hear someone was able to take advantage of the relatively flat seas. It doesn't look so good for the next couple days.

went out about 8AM. 200ft. three people in the boat, limit by 11.30. Watch out for the sharks, they can cut 80 lb test tough line in no time. Lots of people had them on today. One to the boat, about 6ft. hard on gear. Very few Ch, lots of nice Coho, 8to 14 lbs. Wow , what would we do with out the hatcheries??!@!!! Tell JOHN KITZSOBER, or wh;at ever his name is. Ain"t it great living in Oregon??!! Good fishing.

Hey I forgot to tell all to watch for the black bear in
Tillamook Bay. Going out today thought we saw a black dog swiming in the water, just off the end of the spit. As we got closer found it to be a bear. Circled around and it swam for shore, shook off the water and slowly walked on up the spit. First time in my life I have been able to watch a black bear for more than about 5 secounds. By tomorrow when I tell about it in the coffee shope it will weigh about 5 to 600 LBS. ( It was about 150 to 200lbs) But the fish we cought today must have been 40 to 50 lbs. But it really was a black bear.

The bear is a yearling. My parents have been seen the bear daily for about a week as they walk the dike road from Cape Meares out towards the south jetty. Never seen him swim though.

What do you huys think about ocean fishing on
Friday? I can't read those swell reports very well. Any suggestions on what time to cross the bar to head out and come in???
thanks,
Chris

Yo 10%,
If you go Friday, the best time to head out would be first light...5:30 or so. Low tide s/b around 10:00a.m., so conditions permitting, you should be able to get out that far ahead of the low ebb. By conditions, I mean early morning winds and swell, and seas. They are all supposed to be increasing over the next couple days, but Friday may be fishable early.
I will give a call to Garibaldi Marina on Thursday eve. to get a report and then check the weather N.O.A.A. weather reports, online for predictions.
you might also check this site early Thursday evening as I'm sure there will be guys giving updates from Thursday's fishing.
Good luck

Keep in mind that if it does get rough in the a.m. you have to cross an outgoing bar before 10 to get back in...
