I'm going to try it from the boat instead of the bank this year.

I know it's not September yet, but does anybody have some tips to get them lockjawed Willamette Coho into the boat?

Mike, I have always wanted to try myself for coho in the Willamette, I think you have to time it right.... there is no reason why you couldn't troll for them with Wiggle Warts like you do in the Columbia that time of year....Ross Island area looks like a good place.

I suspect the best way is to drag herring around Ilwaco

Long-lining red plugs, they say --- never worked for me!

I will tell you from expeience I have learned from friends. Troll the area below the mouth of the Clackamas. Use Wiggle Warts, or Hot-Shots, in Flor. Red or Hot Pink. Troll very fast, I mean 3-4mph, and wait for the rods to fold over. They hit very hard, and on fairly light gear, are a blast!!

Last year I tried the wiggle wart and not to many boats were getting the fish. The bankies were scoring big time. One morning zero boats got fish out of about 20 boats and seen several bankies getting into fish. It was an early morning bite as well. It was over as fast as it started also. Good luck out there.

Troll blue pirate #35 hot shots and, hot pink and flame hotshots in #30 size. and #5 blue fox spinners. Don't be afraid to troll above the Clackamas either!
