sorry to hear that you're out of work. the economy is downright miserable right now no matter what GW says. and the worst part is that the fishing isn't really that hot right now (unless you can make it out onto the big blue, where they seem to be doing okay). now isn't really the time for you to be booking a charter either.
good luck to you!! i hope you find something soon.

Sorry to hear that...
FYI: I've heard of two big electronic companies going into gresham. One is a for sure thing, the other isn't. I don't know much about it without doing a little research, mabye someone else could add a little info here. I guess one of the companies was looking at the fujitsu facility, supposivley would be adding 400 jobs to the area.
The other company I heard about from my friend who used to work at employers overload. Sounds like they are going to be needing a lot of people.
Sorry I don't have the names of the two companies, I 'll try to get them tonight.
Good luck

That's awful... It's happening to everyone!
Just a reminder, let's keep things like this on General Chat. I'm so sorry about your job, and I hope you understand, but if I allow one, I have to allow all resumes... These are tough times.
I'm going to try and leave this one, but if more than one pop up, they all go. If I get any e mails of people thinking I'm not being fair leaving this up, it'll have to go too.
Yuck. I hate this job sometimes...
SORRY!

I also will be able to spend more time fishing since I work for what is left of Willamette Industries. Weyerhaeuser :hoboy: recently purchased Willamette and is swiftly kicking people into the unemployment line. Sorry to hear about your situation and best of luck. Maybe what we keep hearing about an improving economy will help us both.

My company has chosen a different route lately, they dont believe in lay-offs so they started firing people two weeks ago. 20 people have gotten the ax so far, some guys had more than 12 yrs on the job. Everyone is stressed out and scared. Good luck in your job search.

There are a lot of people out of work, including me. I was laid off in December, and have been constantly looking for a job as a Manufacturing Engineer, but to no avail. Unemployment Insurance and my wife are supporting me thru this economical recession. Manufacturing was hit the hardest in Oregon, and Oregon has the highest unemployment.
The recent loss on Wall St. doesn't help matters either. :hoboy:
Pray for Oregon's economy to rebound.

Ouch.
Been there. Tried that. Didn't like it. :depressed:
Worse yet, with a couple of kids and my wife's part-time income, I couldn't in good conscience spend time and money going fishing either.
I fished less the year I was unemployed than any year of my life.
Good luck, all.

For stress relief, do go fishing now and then, it will center you down better for interviews and even brace you up for cold calls.
I'd look for a seat on a run to the tuna, or otherwise go float tubing in the cascades. Above 4800 feet there is still a good bite on.
Look for a p. message in a little bit about job searching.

rhansme... sorry to hear your troubles... know exactly what you're going thru... took me a year (almost to the day) to get a job close to my prior pay. Keep your spirits up... and make your job search your new job! Network and keep networking... friends, friends of friends, etc...
As Paddlefish said, I too left my big boat high and dry and limited my fishing related spending to help keep costs down. I was fortunate to have friends kind enough to take me along (thanks again Proud TJ Owner)...
Keep looking... lately lots of folks are taking 'survival job' to keep financially afloat while searching for a REAL job... Good Luck!

Something good will happen for us both.

rhansme; I too just joined the unemployment club. Hang in there and like ****** said, things will turn up for us all.
Maybe we should set up an ifish job fair that involves nothing but fishing. We can call it the "ifish for food" club.

Oct. of 99 was my departure from the good old days......Had 2 survival jobs that were not cutting it for me since then.......Last 6 months of limited expenses and limited fishing.....
Finally last week I found a new home....I think this one is the new life I have been looking for.
Hang in there and do what you must and in the end you will be better off.... And happy for the change.
Now I feel like fishing again and don't have the time off to do it.....
I guess that will make it even more special???
Best wishes to those of you that are going through this transition period.

Happened to me too. Worked in the parts department at a major copier company and they closed us down 3 weeks ago. Moved the parts to california. Way to many company's leaving Oregon. 2nd one that did this to me in the last 2 years. Only sorta good thing  was my back injury(surgery tomorrow) so I will have some income for a few more months.

Plenty of my friends just having graduated from college are finding it tough to find employment right now. Lots of people settling for any kind of job that will just pay the bills. Just keep in mind that the economy is cyclic in behavior. Hopefully it is at the bottom end of the down hill slide, and will only get better from here on out.
I read you resume rhansme, and you seem to have alot of technical and managerial expertise under your belt. My bet is you won't have to look too long to find another job.
Until then, enjoy your "unscheduled vacation" and make the fish pay!

I want to thank everyone for the kind words and encouragement. I feel for each one of us in the same boat. Yep it is tough but it is a challenge and opportunity to find something better. Good luck to all.....
