I have a 19 foot Weldcraft Renegade with an American Turbine pump. She is powered by a 4.3 225 horse Vortec. I have an 8.5 Nissan for a kicker.
I have had her to the CR a handful of times last year but will usually only take her out if I can make both trips across the bar on a flood. Her hobbies include sturgeon slaying around the estuary and the Portland area. Turn ons include early morning runs on the river and hog lines for fall chinook. She also likes the shad and peeler action up in the Gorge.
See ya on the river.........

We just bought a 16' Willie Predator open jet boat. It has a pair of Yamaha's, 50hp jet and 6hp troller. It's in great shape, and we found out on our first trip out last week on the Clack, that it will run in 4" of water. A little scary but I had to know for sure what it can run in, Way too Fun!!

15 foot Bayrunner (built by Valco, looks like a square-stern dory with a high bow), 25 hp tiller-steer Evinrude, 3.5 hp Tohatsu kicker, GPS, VHF, fishfinder, 1986 Vintage. I have 2,000 hours on the engine, mostly at sea.
I've had it 20 miles off Depoe Bay, but only under very, very, very good weather conditions. A good sea boat for its size, though obviously limited to good conditions. Recently, I've been launching in Netarts Bay and running the unimproved bar, but only when surf is less than 2 or 3 feet.
Top speed is 29 mph, and I get just over 7 miles per gallon

My barge is a 20 Fish Rite flat bottom...nice wide open boat, that I think is built better than all the boats out there.
I'm told it'll run in 2" of water, but I'll never do it intentionally. Not really an ocean boat, and since I get seasick at the drop of a hat out in the ocean...I stay away from big blue.
I catch 'em here...close to home.

Real wet ride in rough seas so I don't go past 10 and avoid that if I can get a better ride, but seaworthy. Occasionally will venture over Tillamook bar but prefer the upper bay.

My gas mileage doubled its quiter(alot) and a lot faster. and an OLD drift boat, that still gets me down the river.

My first boat ... 25 years ago was a 28' mahogany hulled Chris Craft. It wasn't in great shape, but I had more than enough fun to justify the $500 price. With berths for 8, a 3 burner galley, shower and head, it was a blast chasing stripers on Chesapeake Bay.
I currently have 2 boats. 1988 Willie 16' x 56 Guide Model drifter. First time I had her out fishing was a tide water thing on the Trask. I had everything I needed; coffee, orange juice, water, suds ... everything but a bucket! I was nearing the point of medical trauma when my bobber dropped. It was a great feeling christening that boat with a 49 pounder!
My other boat is a 20' Alumaweld Intruder with sportjet. The shallow V doesn't handle big water well, but there is so much fishing room that makes up for a lot. I've had her about 4 miles off shore. On a good day, I'd go further. It's the competence of the captain, not the capability of the hull that poses the current limitations.

This boat was restored from an almost completely destroyed condition and has been heavily modified. It is lucky as well. My neighbor thinks it smells funny and the neighborhood cats try to use it as a spawning ground.
As a result, when not surrounded by cubic miles of saltwater the boat lives in the locked garage.
We have been as far as 51 miles from Depoe in pursuit of shiny, fast fish. CR is another favorite and I have crossed that bar many, many times in pursuit of Mr. Spotty Tail.

I have a 21' Fish-Rite w/ a 150 offshore merc w/ a seadrive mount and a 15 kicker. Every electronic device that I can muster except a radar on board. 2 gps, 1 fishfinder, cb, and vhf. I've actually gone out to 34 miles on my boat straight from the jetties and go halibut and tuna fishing all the time. On occasion I swipe the old man's boat from him. 26' newer bayliner with a flybride and the whole works. It's definitely a smoother ride but throw in the drift boat and we have most of the water covered. No fish can be safe.

I use several from my "fleet," depending on the conditions I'm facing, but the quirkiest has to be my Mississippi River Mixing Box, a 15' 10" PLYWOOD canoe -- actually an updated replica of the three-board-canoes built by North Country Indians after the timber companies plundered the birch forests. There was no more birchbark standing, but lots of clear, wide boards. :depressed:
It's primarily a one-man boat at only 31 inches wide. Looks like a double-ended drift boat, and acts a lot like one too. Works great in whitewater, dry and maneuverable like a drift boat. Also great for coastal rivers in late summer when the cutts and late summer steelhead are marooned by low water -- too low for real drift boats to even make the float.
Runs on peanut butter. And I can double my horsepower with a 9-foot double-bladed paddle.
Best fish so far: a 26-lb Trask tidewater chinook. Let's see: 26 lbs. vs. the 57-lb. weight of my boat . . . that's a fish that weighs 46% as much as my boat.
Top that!

16 foot Alumadrifter which is an aluminum boat that is now discontinued. It is like a drift boat with a square stern. It is mated to a 15 hp Merc and electric motor. It is great for drifting coast rivers, bobber fishing in tidewater, crabbing, and trolling in Tillamook Bay in good weather. It is slow and does not take rough water well. I do not go past bouy 6 with this boat. I sure wish I had a boat slip / dry dock in Garibaldi with one of the nice boats described here. Then I might be tempted to try big blue....after I get a prescription for scapalimine and diet pills ;-)

1999 Hewescraft 179 Searunner w/90hp & 8hp Honda 4strokes. The 90 will hit 45mph on flat water.
Although it's a deep-V style, we take it over the Tillamook bar only in very mellow conditions.
It's best suited to deeper waters like the Columbia.
Weak points are:
a) its high profile and back-weighted design cause it to get blown around in the wind making trolling a tiring challenge.
b) the main engine is not trustworthy and has gotten us into memorable 'gripping' situations twice.

Four years ago it was the best drifter for the price, but since the big names have put together some cheap packages I'm not so sure that's the case anymore.

Have had a number of boats over 30 years. Only one I took in ocean was a l9ft Blue Water inboard (205HP). I was scared a number of times. Now I have a l9ft open Alumaweld super vee LS with a 60HP Merc 4 stroke and prop and tiller. A 8HP Merc kicker which should be about a 9.9. Theoretically, on a very nice day, this boat should take Columbia Bar on incoming tide. I probably will always stop at Buoy l0 but you never know. As has been said, it really is the skipper and not the equipment. I know one guy who regularly (with a buddy) goes to the ocean out of Ilwaco with a l5ft alaskan and a 25HP outboard. I know another older guy who regularly goes out to the ocean alone in his l7ft inboard.

I've got the identical boat as Fishchaser. 16' Spectrum, 40HP, but my 8HP kicker is on the other side. It fishes 2 well, 3 if I have to (4 is nearly impossible unless they are kids). It's fairly simple, really light and easy to deal with in low water level lakes as well as the Willamette, Columbia and the bays.
Not ocean worthy, but then again, neither am I.............

1988 19' Marlin with 2.3 Liter Ford inboard and OMC outdrive.
I bought this boat in 2001 with 180 hours on it (that was in a 13 year period). In the first month I had it, I put 90 hours on it at Buoy 10.
It is a very seaworthy vessel and I have had it 15 miles offshore on a few occassions.

I own a 98' 22' starcraft w/15hp merc. 4 stroke kicker. Also have radar. fish finders, remote steering and cruise control, gps, radios and most everything else. I have a small cabin on it I can stay in w/stove & refer. I don't do a lot of running in shallow waters so this fits me just fine.I go in the ocean and up to the inland waters of Canada for hali. and salmon. I also fish in the columbia for strg. and salmon. not as fast as some but will do about 40mph. It works well for my needs. Mike
18-1/2 ft Bayliner Capri...not the ideal fishing boat, but does the job and is good for waterskiing as well.
