About a dozen volunteers showed up to help out with the first phase of the riparian restoration and interpretative trail project down at the N.F. Nehalem Hatchery. Chris Knutsen seemed pleased with the turnout. I thought there could have been more. Along with the volunteers, there were about 20 young people there doing their community service time as well. We ended up planting several hundred trees and shrubs. Fortunately, most of the holes were already dug. It took us about 3 hours to complete and then they provided us with lunch.
I will enjoy seeing the progress of the project as I spent plenty of time down there in the winter while my wife fishes from the disabled platform. Speaking of the disabled platform, due to the heavy use it got last year, they will be expanding it. It should about doubling the fishing area.
I did ask them to keep me informed of future volunteer projects like this one. I told them I would post them on ifish with hopes of rounding up some volunteers.

BR --- I am so pleased that your wife has enjoyed the disabled platform. I remember back in the 60's watching all those fish above our deadline. We always wished we could fish up there. Neat!!!
