Let me begin by saying I am most inspired and pleased with what I have been reading about the differences our Ifish folks are making up north as evidenced in the most recent reports for Pilar, et al...... my hat is off to all of you!
For the sake of brevity, let me say I have been very active for several years in working towards the removal of Savage Rapids Dam while insuring the irrigation district have the government funding to do so and first, install a pumping system to divert the irrigation water for the district.
The dam was put in operation in 1922 or there abouts and has been a historical fish killer. The most prominent in the entire Rogue system according to ODFW.
Having lived my entire life (48 yrs.) in the Rogue basin, my life experience certainly backs this notion.
The past leadership of the district blew almost a million dollars of this small irrigations districts limited resources to fight the removal of this non -ESA compliant dam.
Now, in a mean spirited attacked through our local newspaper, the past leaders, who resigned when the patron's voted to remove the dam, are lashing out at the new board of directors. The board who has worked diligently towards a "win-win" for our fish and our irrigators.
I think there is a real opportunity for our Ifish community to show that our rivers are regional resources and that we support the current direction of the GPID in it's efforts to restore the Rogue to a free flowing river in it's middle seciton.
An ODFW modeling study concluded that removal of Savage Rapids Dam would provide a 20% increase in return of our Salmon and Steelhead.
Let's show the region how important all Oregonians feel our resources are and our support of installation of a fish friendly pumping system rather than an outdated fish klling dam.
Anyone wishing more specifics please email me.

Thanks for doing what you can do! This is a quick, easy way to help spread the word that we Sportfishers as tired of being overlooked. Be sure to include your phone number for verification.
