well down south it started out very crappy... Bandon bar was very nasty..... went to charleston, there bar was closed.... then this afternoon it was BEAUTIFUL! little to no wind... slight swell around 2ft. with a long time between them.... even caught some bottom fish.... I should have gone back to charleston and got some salmon..... dumb me.....
Hi, I tried to fish out of Garibaldi today but the ocean was rough. So we went in and fished Nehalem. We fished at the end of the jetty and Wheeler. It was pretty rough out there as well. We saw one Jetty Fishery Crab boat get flipped and the passengers went in the drink. Luckily the boat did not get completely flipped over and they somehow managed to get back in. Be careful out there when its rough. We saw one fish on the board at wheeler and another caught around twenty pounds. At 6pm they were weighing another and it was twenty six pounds. As far as tommorow I read on the marine forecast that the ocean is supposed to calm down.

It never ceases to amaze me. Iam an experienced boater(cut my teeth in the surf of pacific city dory fishing) and i watch the endless line of morons who tempt fate at places like the Nehalem in small boats. I have seen them fishing clear over on the north side of the the jetty where the big waves roll. Yes they are safe, but what happens when the motor stalls?????? I have watched the 22 footers fishing out in what i call "hard water" with the waves just inches from going over the sides of the boat. Why do experienced fishermen tempt fate? Because they think they are are safe, because they have this big boat under them. Statstics, they may be one somday. If you are one of them go ahead and be mad at me. But pay attention and live to fish another day.
