From what I'm hearing and reading, I'm getting mixed messages. does anyone know what is going on?
The latest thing I read was it is open but a decision to close it is on a day to day basis depending on the quota.
I was out on opening day at 7am and was done at 9:30am 4 of us. It was smoken out there, all north of the green line. I'm planning to be there again this coming weekend, if it's still open.
So, any info would be helpful and appreciated,
I'll keep checkinh the latest news releases from WDFG and ODFG.
The Ocean is open. Fishery managers will meet on Monday (7/15) to discuss changes. Read the press release HERE. (http://www.ifish.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=013634)

Any report from the fisheries yet? Did they keep the ocean open or are they going to close it?

For what it's worth, even if they close it to Silvers, south of Cape Falcon, Chinook fishing will be open and it's well worth going down there for. Yesterday, I caught a 28lb and 18lb Chinook off Twin Rocks, in 200' of water. We trolled East and West from 190' - 210'. We were only out 12 pulls!!! Saturday we fished 18-25 pulls and had only one with several other strikes. The chinook are unusually shallow. One old timer told me he was getting them last week at 6-8pulls. After we did well at 12 pulls, I believed him.
We found some good "slicks" and had luck using Deep Six Divers, 5' of leader to a Les Davis Single ought (0) Diver, and plug cut herring, 16-18" behind the dodger with a tight faster spin....also unusual for Chinook but these fish were hitting hard. They're very active.
My friend also boated and 8lb. Chinook. Needless to say, if Silver season is over, I'll still go out and try for Chinook. This is a banner year for them. In August we'll head north to Bouy 10/Columbia River and it should be killer!
Good luck!
