Fought the wind and fished the picket fence and [77] today. The bite was VERY slow. Out of the entire fleet and 9 hours of runoff I only saw 2 fish on, and it was the same boat dropping out both times.

I sat in a prime spot/prime line without a strike or a bump the entire day. Action was the same around me. It seems to be tapering off consistantly for the past week or so.

If you are a weekender I would suggest going lower into Cowlitz country or up into the Lewis proper, 'cause things are dead in this stretch.

Good Luck ..Good Fishin'

I suggest that the bite has been falling off due to the increasing water temp. The weather, combined with lower flows, have probably raised the temperature very subastantially over the last several days. For this reason, I plan to fish no shallower than 30' this weekend. Letcha know how I did.

Hogtide,
What does your boat look like?Spend some time out by Sand Island,so I figure we have crossed paths. We are in a charcoal grey Willie Drifter with an 8 merc.
See you on the rivers.
Mark.

Chinook counts are droppping...start targeting the steelies....

Start out in about 10 feet close to the shore, and work your way deeper if you don't find fish, AND use lures that BOTH steelies and chinook will hammer.

Report your results, as I will.

Last trip out hooked steelies in 14 feet... out aways from the bank.

Hogtide,

That alumaweld's got a pump doesn't it?

Fish the Lewis proper, boondog! Summer runs will come. Think lewis on windy days. I can make the meathole in 40 mins. from St. Helens. You've got more HP than I do, so you should be able to do it in 30. I know you've done the deschutes in a jet so the lewis should be cake, way cake. Good eggs, 5' leader, small hooks and boondog=fish on! Krikey, I'll even join you if ya want.

BTW, I own a sled now, But still have the bass boat

No more kickers in reverse or stern anchor, BOONDOG!

HOGTIDE, I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE USING THE CLOTHES BASKET? MAY GET OUT HERE TOMORROW THOUGHT I WOULD FISH ABOVE 205 OR MAY TRY BELOW THE BONN. DAM DON'T KNOW YET. I HAVE GOT NO NEW REPORTS FROM THE GOLD BEACH SPOT. WITH THE HOT WEATHER IN MEDFORD DO YOU THINK THE WIND WE BE BLOWING? THEY HAVE NO FISHING WITHIN 100 FT. OF THE BRIDGE, GUESS THEY THINK IF YOU ARE NOT FISHING NOTHING WOULD ON YOU OR YOUR BOAT. TALK TO YOU LATER, DON'T BLOW AWAY. HIGHWATER

OK..I took another day off fishin' and painted the house....some more.

Dustin (Drummer/ Fisherman) gave me a call and had to work really hard  to talk me out of painting tomorrow. So we are goin' to hit it in Dustin's new Alumaweld.

Back to the shallow water and back to steelhead, I guess :depressed: ...It'll be up to Capt. Dustin! It's just hard to give up on my ol' sweet spot after having so many hook ups there the past 3 weeks.

I think FM's 16' water idea is a good one. But, If I hit another dead day...up the Lewis/Cowlitz I go! Dude...I haven't casted a spinning reel in 22 years!! Geez Aaron, I might be too old for anything called "BoonDoggin"!

OK harold, last message was "wash my clothes" now your sayin' something about "100 feet from a bridge" ???...are you sneaking some of Mary's pain medication?????

And...Flatfish, I run a 20' Alumaweld Intruder SportJet. White with silver painted bottom. Merc 9.9 troller...give me a holler. I'm jus sittin' there gettin' wind burned, any way

OK flatfish...I know who you are! Ya, that was a pretty sweet spot for a couple of weeks, but the flow just isn't there any more.

Dustin and I went out for a few hours yesterday. We fished a prime race in about 14' of water off of the end of the picket fence. I only had one takedown. Seemed the boats sitting out in about 25-35 were getting some action. One guy targeting kings dropped out 3 times, his neighbor once. There were only about 2 other fish caught around us. that actually is a bit of improvement in the action compared to the last 5 or 6 days.

Spent saturday morning at Frenchmens, 4 rods,3 takedowns and 1 steelie in the net.
Fished in 20 ft. Saw one other fish caught in approximately the same depth. ( orange
U20's and K10's)
