Look to see where the charter boats are. My guess is out past the bouy's and then southwest but the charters are really a good indicator of where they are or have been catching fish. I generally headed out about two miles and then went on a southwest angle unitl i hit the fish.

Fished out of Depoe Bay Monday 7/8 - Thur 7/11. 31 tuna on Mon. stopped for an hour or so for Coho on the way back in and nada/zero (it was reported slow). Tue slow again, a few reports of people doing better about 5 miles out. We slept in after little sleep from cleaning tuna late the night before. We ended up with 3 Coho. That was one fish per person in our boat. At first we were bummed that we did not limit out. But compared to how we heard others did it was actually pretty good. Wed. started close and early 0530, nothing for 3 hours, then went out 5 miles west with 3 charter boats. Got 5 wild fish in a row. Charters were slow with most being wild. We finally went a bit north and found some. The game checker said we were the only boat that she checked that had a limit (this was 2 pm and we did not see many other boats still out). One Chinook and 5 Coho (we lost 2 other nice Chinook). We checked the stomachs and 4 were empty and two had a single fish inside (where are all the bait fish???). Thurs. charters all cancelled their trips it was really rough, we went in close for 1.5 hours (way to rough out past 2 miles). Not a hit. We were the only boat out. The best color were Pink Hootchies with milar, flasher and prism divers. We tired, lures, spinners, whole and cut bait, down rigger etc... Charters were getting them on purple haze hootchies. We never caught a single fish on the down riggers or bait. Fish caught were 16-40 pulls with divers. The water temp was also very up and down. It went clear up to 62 degrees for a few days.
PS forget crabbing. We used fresh tuna one day and fresh salmon the next (we only pulled the traps once but soaked them for about 8 hours) and only got one keeper and about 7 total throw back crabs.
I think they did better in Newport for Coho and we usually do much better early off the mouth of the Columbia river but we wanted to go for the tuna and I am glad we did.
Good luck, let us know how you did.

We went out to about 30 miles and got into fish. I think Pilar and Puffin got into them the day before we went at 25-27 miles(?).
