OK, here's the challenge.
Last weekend I spent 5 hours cleaning off my fishing bench and cleaning out the area I use for off season storage. Came across a good rod (and later a reel to go with it) that I haven't used in 15 years. Not worth alot but still perfectly good.
Made a post and gave it away to an IFish member, made a new friend, got rid of something that I no longer needed, freed up some much needed space, felt fgood about doing it and most importantly I put a rod and reel (or any fishing gear) in the hands of someone that will not only appreciate it but use it.
Soooooooo, I chalenge those of you that have fishing rods/reels/gear sitting around to offer it up to someone that will put it to good use. (I am excluding items that might have significant value, IE: loomis rod, 5001C reel etc) but have to believe that lots of us have rods, reels, tackle boxes, lures, etc that we no longer use, have little value to us but in fact are absolutely useable to someone else.

You know, this is a great idea!
I second the call, and I'm going out to look at my stuff too!
Thanks, Fishbait! cool idea!
Let's see how much stuff we can put on this thread, and how good we can feel! Oh BABY!
I could always tell when my Mom was feeling down. She would go into the kitchen and either arrange a bouquet of flowers, or bake something, and take it to someone.
It always made her feel better. She'd take it to a nursing home, or an old friend who hadn't much company.
I'll never forget that lesson, nor the good that it does for both sides!

Great idea! I have some perfectly good rods that I was pretty proud of before I fell into the clutches of the Master Rod Makers. Now I only use my precious rods, and the others are sitting. They belong in the hands of up-and-comers.
So...I suspect the neighborhood kids - and maybe their dads or moms - are going to get some presents. Might even have to take 'em fishing so they can try them out. This might really work!!! Let's see...I thought I had an old Shimano 2000 around here someplace....

And the eleventh commandment:
Thou shalt not make fun of those with yellow rods....
I think I read that someplace!

Ceramic guides?
My old yellow rods were bought BEFORE the arrival of ceramic guides!
(Still catch fish, though. The fish don't seem to mind the rod color.)
I had a neon yellow, solid glass salmon rod, bought in combo with a Penn 85M trolling reel for $9.77 at Foster Sporting Goods about 1965. After I had landed my third coho of the day once, the boat's skipper commented, "That rod looks like it came from a box of Cracker Jacks! Sure does catch fish, though." I passed the rod on to someone else, but still got the reel.
Seriously, great idea. I've been doing the same with some of my older gear, in the name of getting new kids interested in fishing. Works great and I'm not sure who has more fun. The best days are the ones when I can't even fish 'cause I'm spending all my time handling the net.

Shane has been kind enough to offer this:
"I would be willing to give up a ABU Ambassadeur 5001C to someone who maybe
can't afford to get one and really has a need for one of these reels. since
I work on my own reel I can assure you this is in great shape. I have three
others along with four 5501C so and other LH reels so I would be more than
happy to help someone out."

Here is another idea!! There are a few of us here on I-Fish who belong to the White Water Boaters of Oregon. We are a non-profit club, who's goal is to educate boaters on courtesy, safety, and correct river ettiquette.
We are having a Fishing Garage Sale, on July 13th in Tigard. We are seeking donations for this event, and would welcome any kind of donation. It goes to a good cause!! Hopefully from the funds generated at this sale we can continue with our Mission of Education.
Perphaps, with proper education, we can help eliminate some of the conflicts we have all expeienced, at one time or another.
The sale will be at the Tigard Water Bureau Bldg., at the intersection of Hall & Burnaham, near Stevens Marine in Tigard. Sale hours are 9AM to 6PM or so, maybe a little bit later!!
You can contact the following I-Fish'ers with your donation:

I have a very good friend that spent his last nickle on a fishing trip this year and now needs some of his own equipment, (got the steelie bug-bite) his name is Daniel and email is kyiam@msn.com. He is a young family man and an opportunity like this is too good to pass on, so if any of you can make contact I know you'd make a good friend, if you could help!

Okay, Let's shift this to the hunting side a bit. Bow season is coming soon.
I have a Martin Linx XR compound bow in new condition with sights, and quiver. I can likely come up with a couple dozen XX75 2216 camo arrows to go with it.
I pay over a hundred bucks per dozen for just my arrows now.
This go's to only an I-fish want-abe bow hunter that's willing to practice nearly every day till season begins. We wouldn't want any archers out there that can't kill in one shot!
Les
No Rick this is a LH reel like Mark likes to use. You gave me a 5500C that I let my son use.

I would love to have this bow for my first bow season hunt. You can e-mail me at reelbad2@aol.com and I will gladly come pick it up.
Thank You

We have a new bow hunter on the block.
Bassman picks up his new free bow and arrows Saturday morning. Congrads to John.
The two I-fish members that responded with at least 3 months membership to I fish flipped a coin with Bassman coming out on top.
May your arrows hit their mark.
