Hello to all -
Headed down to Nehalem Bay this weekend, I'm sure it won't be crowded  , but the little ones love the parade & fireworks in Manzanita. It will probably give me a couple of shots to crab the bay. Was anyone down last weekend for Kelly's derby? and how was crabbing? Normally a little spotty inside the bay this time of year, but thought I would ask. I heard there was a crab crawling around, marked with a letter that indicated the lucky recepient was the winner of a free vasectomy  , anyone win the lucky snip.............. Have a happy and safe fourth!

Last I heard no one won the free scissor work but not from lack of trying. The weather was beautiful (I didn't crab) and Kelly was at his finest. I guess Saturdays crabbing wasn't bad but Sunday went to hell in a hand basket. Kelly was telling me that the water temp was at 64 degrees combined with the 3 plus inches of rain we got on Thursday and Friday seemed to send them scurrying.

i tried to crab the bay yesterday on the incoming tide and the water was pretty bad it threw my little 15ft boat around pretty good. i talked to some guys that had crabbed for about 4 hours and they only had 3 keepers i had never seen the Nehalem bay that choppy.

The Nehalem Bay choppy???
Last summer there was one small section just up stream from the Jetty Fishery.
It took about 3-5 minutes to get through it - was like crossing the bar.
Kind of wierd, everything was like glass except this little stretch of water.

Yeah, that section in front of Brighton can get pretty ugly, even when every thing else seems great. That is the only place I have ever taken a wave over the bow. Soaked the guy standing in the back of the boat. Those short coupled waves can make you wish for a kidney belt.

As far as the chinooks, I know of no one who has hooked one yet. Not many people trying but I heard that they are marking a few at the jaws.
