My son, Eric, hit the Wilson early this morning and had a nice limit by 11 AM. These were caught high. He used a pink jig for both of them. Nice fish. Dad slept in as usual. There are some nice fish in the river.

I hope those fish are pushing it and getting near MP#16 or above. I will be back with a vengence next week!!!

shhhhhhhh on the coastal steelies

anyway, everyone knows the only thing in the coast rivers is a few little cutthroat. nothing to drive a few hours for, that's for sure.

believe me, you'll all do better fishing the upper valley streams for salmon. try above the dams!

Nice fish!!! Without being too specific, what general stretch of river seems to hold the most fish right now. Might have a chance to be around there on Wed and would love to give it a shot....Thanks

Kid (well he is my kid even if he is 41) is kinda quiet but did say it was higher up. That is all I could get out of him. I threatened to disown him but still could not get him to talk.

They will be eaten in a short period of time.

Those First Cast Jigs do work. They were solid pink.

Good luck to all that head that way. I would be inclined to try around Jones Creek and below.

There are fish throughout the river. I took my son out this morning and he got his first steelhead...on a pink/white jig...just like my avatar. Later I got a beautiful 20# Springer on the same jig. The Guide Shop had several pictures of fresh fish. Wear polarized glasses and search the water for holding fish. These fish will keep moving in the system regardless of how much precipitation the area receives.

Hey Mark, I want to go fishing with you! Sounds like you had a great day. Do you fish the deep holes or the fast water? Or every thing in between?

Coho

When fishing the Wilson this time of the year I take into account several factors like:

-how much sun/rain/cloud cover for that particular day

-time since latest series of high tides...(this is an important one)

-how much fishing pressure has the river had recently

-river height and whether it's dropping/rising

-moon phase

Also throw in buddies recent fishing reports if any and then I'll decide where to fish on the river and how long I'll spend in each section.

The lower the water level the more I concentrate on the riffles leading into a drift. Usually the more aggressive fish will be holding there.

Shoot me an e-mail if you want and I'll give you some tips to point you in the right direction.

I have never spent any time on the Wilson, but I spent all day on Sunday. Fished from the guide shop up to the Jones Creek area. What a great stream. I stopped off every where there was a trail down to the river. I did not see any fish, and every one I talked to was in the same boat. The word was Sat. was pretty good. How high up the river are the fish. I tried every jig that I have of Mark's as well as eggs, spinners and corkies with and with out yarn. I know that there are many who do really well on that river. Any advice?????

I also fished it all day Sunday. It was my first time on the Wilson. I fished numerous holes with every bait I could think of. Nothing!!! I only saw one fish for the whole day.
I am in the wrong spot. Any tips would be appreciated. It is a great looking river and an easy drive from my house. Would love to learn how and where to catch them on that water.
