I'll be taking a ten year old out for his first Shad trip on Sunday. I plan to be in the Coon Island area. I haven't been out for them yet myself this year so not sure what color and lure has been working best. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Finn-icky,
Have been there a number of time this year and almost everytime the brass/silver Dick Nite has produced best ( smallest size of Dick nite). The Brass and Chartreuse tipped Dick-Nite is a close second. But I was anchored next to a boat last week that was using strictly a silver hook (nothing else) and he was slaying them. You might want to keep changing color schemes to find what is hot for the day. The brass swivel with silver si-washes attached to it can also be deadly. Good luck

Do a search on this topic. Been discussed several times over the last few weeks.
Silver / Chartreuse Dick Nite, Red / Green Jigs, Red / Yellow Jigs, Brass / Silver Dick Nite....
I'm sure there are more.

Get there early enough to grab the slot straight out from the upstream end of the dock, about 2/3s of the way across toward the east bank.
Fished last Sunday with my brother and his two daughters and we tore them up. Smallest Dick Knights: brass/orange, green/white, orange/white, solid brass. Find which ones they are hitting. As soon as they stop hitting that spoon, change.
Back bounce 2oz of lead on a 30" dropper. I run my leaders 36" so I can net without battling the lead. Back bounce the lead as far as it will go. If you do not get bit, reel in and do it again. When you get tired, put it in the rod holder but pick it up and bounce it every few minutes. You will get bit using this technique. Good luck.
