We're heading out of Port Orford here on Saturday and I'm giving a shout to anyone who would like to tag along in a boat for some great halibut fishing. It's only 19 miles to the high spot and you'll be coming back with the wind. Plus, the bottomfishing on the way back is nothing short of spectacular. We're planning on saturday and so far the weather report is pretty darn good. Let me know if anybody is in.

TC,
I'm originally from Coos bay and will be in the area for a funeral :depressed: tuesday the 25th). I might drag my boat down but only to go clam digging. My 17ft, openbow alumaweld isn't exactly an ocean going craft so will have to pass on the tag along offer. Good luck on the halibut fishing. I wouldn't mind meeting up with you and discussing fishing.

Tailchaser, I am very interested. I have not had my boat to the south coast yet and so this is a good opportunity to learn some new spots, since you are offering to share.

It's a pretty long drive and so I would have to head out Friday mid dayish, which is doable. I'll discuss it with Nancy, and post here again before the end of the day.

Looking at NOAA for this weekend, it says:
Fri Night
N wind 20 kt. Wind waves 6 ft. SW swell 2 ft.
Sat
N wind 15 kt. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 4 ft.
Sun
N wind 20 kt. Wind waves 5 ft. W swell 7 ft.

First of all, how the he** do they get 6ft wind waves on Friday night on 2ft swells? That looks like a mistake to me, but if it's not, 6ft wind waves are a no no for my little boat. Saturday looks great. Sunday, though, 7 & 5? Whenever I'm looking at fitting into a good 'slot' between bad days, I look REAL hard at the trend and plan on morning departure and return to within 5 miles of port by noon.

I thought Hali was closed...at least up here. Are you SURE it is open down there?

Hey Angle...,

The weather right now has been less than the NOAA reports, which is good. This morning on the bar at Coos Bay was 1-3 long ocean swells. I looked this morning at the reports and wind will supposedly be up to 15 knotts on saturday. That's easy if it stays that way. The best thing about going out of Port Orford is the fact you'll be coming back with the wind. Makes it a lot easier.

At the very worst we can have an outstanding day bottomfishing. It's only 3 miles from the launch. Cape Blanco protects that area especially with a north wind so either way fish will get hooks in the lip.

As of the halibut it's definitely open down here, salmon is definitely going good for chinook so if you wanted to catch some of those also, as of the crab pots I've only thrown them out there a couple times but will check with the local yocals about it and have something for you tomorrow. I got your email also, so if you want to get ahold of me tonight give me a jingle. 541-751-1953. Probably after seven thirty or so.

Tailchaser, how as crabbing been down there lately? If I go is it worth bringing my traps? Also, is salmon open by chance down there right now?

Thanks again!

fishuntr2,

Clam on dude. There should be some perch in the Bay as well as some other fish, hey like Shad. No wait, you probably had your fill of those on Yee' Ole Mult. Chnl.

Remain Clam,

TPM

p.s. Have you ever seen the movie "Silence of the Clams?"
