I watched a guy up at Bonneville land two oversized, probably in the 8-9' range, from the bank. Dude had a big old Penn lever drag real with 600 yards of 120lb tuff line on it. Had a full body harness and didn't have to walk more than 100 yds down stream for either fish or play them more than 30-40 minutes. He put the serious hurt to 'em and it was a blast to watch. I'm surprised more guys don't do that but I guess he was into his outfit for $900 so not everyone can afford it.
I fished 4 hours for oversized with one very brief encounter and then borrowed someones shad pole and caught about 20 in two hours. They are in there thick!

I saw that guy today, too. He brought in about a 7 footer in less than 10 minutes.

We used to catch a lot of oversize from the bank, then we got smart and just started breaking them off  13-16' rods a Diawa 50H and anywhere from 17-60lb Mono. lighter from the bucket and heavier during high water. normaly fished 40lb and caught a lot of fish. I dont care to fight oversize much anymore, once in awhile they are fun. Would rather fight a nice fat 56"
