I flew a trip to Campbell River. The crew got to fish. We stayed at Painter's Lodge, Painter's Lodge website (http://www.painterslodge.com)
We had our limit by about 9:30 am. on Sunday.
We pulled these little ones up from 250 feet. The bottom was a little over 300 feet. They call the hole, "The Abyss." We fished on Georges Strait which is between Vancouver Island and the mainland.

I was told the fishing is very good for this early in the season.
I'd love to be there when the big fish arrive.
Oak Bay Marine Group is very good! I have very few complaints for all the trips I have made with them. I usally go out Ucluelet and fish from the Princess. (Did you know Ucluelet is an Indian word for barfing in the Ocean?)

No, I didn't know Ucluelet meant that, but I'm familiar with the concept.
Where is Ucluelet?
Oak Bay Group is quite through. They clean & pack your fish in bags, (with resuable, ice packs), then box them and keep them in a cold storage until you're ready to depart.
You do however, have to ask your guide to bleed your fish. We had a different each of two days and had to make the request with each guide.
This place is set up for those who don't mind spending a little extra on luxuries such as the Sushi Bar across the "Georges Strait."
. . . . although the four hours of fishing might be considered a little "woosie" by some of our standards!

We're leaving to spend some time in Tofino and Campbell River next week. Have you guys ever had fish shipped back by air so it's waiting for you when you get back (shipped home to a friend or relative)? If so, how spendy is it?
We're also going to spend a few days in Victoria before coming home, and I don't want to drag a bunch of fish around with me the whole trip!

W My Bob,
The bad news is that it is expensive to have your fish sent home. If you click on the Painters Lodge website You'll be able to contact them and get actual prices.
Painters uses several "Zero-Pak" gel-ice. They're about like a quart zip lock bag.
Are you flying or driving?
If flying, contact the airline, explain your situation. Maybe they'll air freight them home to someone here.
If you're staying at hotels, call ahead for info on cold storage.
If you're driving a large vehicle like a truck, you might think about an AC converter and a small freezer. If you buy it in Canada, the exchange rate is automatic if you put it on your credit card.
POSSESION LIMITS !!
Two days of chinook (2 fish per day).
Check the regs in Tofino (ocean), but in Campbell river, Coho is catch & release, which is academic because the coho were not in yet as of last week.
Good Luck & let us know how you did.

DP,
Raingear:
1) Waves splashing over the sides of the little boats.
2) Wind break
Happy Birthday to you little one. See you soon.

Thanks for your info Vinny.
We're driving the whole trip, from Portland up and back. Got the Hotels booked, and everything else will just be day to day. If the combined costs for fishing/packing/shipping are too much, I may not even fish while we're there. Upriver Bright season is right around the corner! But I'll definitely check on how the fishing is doing and let you know, even if I don't fish. I called Painters Lodge, and they said there would be plenty of room for "walk in" clients if I want to fish.
Definitely putting things on the CC is the way to go.
I'll post when I get back. Thanks again -

That's right Neutron! I was the only one of our group to land three fish for the weekend.
Just think, last year I was retalitevly new to the area and it was my first year fishing here. Thanks to the opportunities to fish with several Ifish members, I'm setting the hook, keeping positive rod pressure, and landing more fish. Not to mention all of advice on smoking fish too! (B.O.E.'s mishap excluded  )
People out here in Wally World actually think I'm sort of this great fisherman 'cause I bring home salmon and can smoke it. If they only knew!
There you have it, a sworn testimonial to the real life benefits (in the Real World) of being an Ifish member. I owe it all to so many of you!
Vinny,
Thanks for the post. Sounds like you had a great time. I am making a trip with some Family members to Painter's Lodge in August. I will be bringing my new digital camera so when we get back I'll post some Photo's. (If we catch any fish that is  )
