Went fishing twice this week up at the Wind River canyon. I would say the fishing is fair to good, with the occasional excellent bites taking place. In both trips I saw no less than half a dozen fish landed (legally) and a few snagged and released in less than 3 hours. Certainly not red hot. They seem to be spread out and steadily moving through. The water was down and clear yesterday, until the monsoon came through. We got to watch the river rise before our eyes! (wind, rain, hail, really hard rain and some more hail and wind.)

I don't know if it will really heat up, but I would imagine the rain yesterday probably pulled quite a few more fish up the river. (possibly all the way to the hatchery) Most of the fish are pretty bright with a few that are starting to turn. The hens are sporting some pretty good eggs.

And that's the way it is.

While you were there, did you notice any being caught at the mouth? Not sure if fighting
the crowd up the canyon is worth it. The counts are still fair, so there still should be some fish.

thanks

Every report I have heard from the mouth is that it is slow slow slow (if not dead). The last decent day at the mouth was a week ago Saturday, where limits were the norm. The canyon is hit or miss as far as crowds. The middle of the day to late afternoon is not too bad. Obviously if you can pull a weekday it should be even better.

As of Sunday morning I fished the canyon from 4:45am to 9:15. I saw 4 fish hooked fair and 8 hooked foul. Slowww.

Report for Sat from the checker at Coffer Dam was 60 fish - 80 checked. Also 3 fishermen reported it was slow there on Sunday. The fish are spread out and not biting well.
