Madwizerd,
Hello friend! I wish I had a report for you about the sandy, but DAMN IT I dont! The only info I could possibly offer at this point is that the sandy is probably still there where it was the last time I saw it. I doubt this helps very much. I had a dream that I was on the sandy up by the old slaughter hole last night. That probably doesnt help much either. I miss my river!!!!!!!

Hi Madwizerd,

Drifted it today with out a bump, Okay maybe it was a bump, That was it though. Ran into Hot tomalle, and they ended up with one nice Summer. I also drifted it Friday and at the put in, Somebody was taking out with a limit of Springers. Again we ended up with nothing. This has been an extremely slow year for me this year on the Sandy. Go figure. I think I'm holding my mouth wrong.

I new to the rivers in the Portland area.
I've fish the Sandy & the Clackamas, I can't tell if the currrent water levels are a bit high or normal.

In the Sandy, I fished spots from the I-84 crossing up to Dabney State Park. I've even hit a couple of spots at Oxbow, but all the water I see is either two fast or two deep.

My question is, where can a person who doesn't have a boat find some good water to drift fish with just corkies and yarn

On the Sandy try Dodge park, the pipeline hole (just below it), and there's a few good holes above it if you walk the banks. Oxbow has some good drift water too, you just have to search it out.

I did not fish this weekend, did the volenteer thing at Bonneville with the Sandy chapter Steelheaders for the free fishing weekend........great fun.

My recommendations for the Sandy at this time of year would be:

Driftboat - Oxbow down.
Powerboat (driftboat w/motor or sled) - troll at the mouth.
Bank - Oxbow and up.

My mom took one (21lbs) on a trip last Tuesday, saw some others taken as well. That was from Dabney down. I would say from a driftboat to find a good hole and fish it hard with different methods from diver/bait to bobbers. Keep after them and you'll find one or two. I have noticed that this time of year the springers have a tendancy to hole up so if you find one, more than likely you can get a couple more in the same spot.
