Anyone else have the joy of fishing the South this morning? I checked it at 3:00 before I took off and it was at 1700 cfs, where it had been for a few days. By the time I gave up fishing at 7:00 the river had risen to 2700 cfs. That's almost a foot in a few hours. Needless to say, it didn't help my fishing any.

The question is: is there any rhyme or reason to the water regulation at Foster?

It's screwy how they fluctuate....I think they redirected water from the north fork some where up in the cascades as it dropped substantially. Go figure.

I think the person making the desicions is a peta member. Why else would they open the gates right when the weekend starts :hoboy:

Lets see, we had a trace of precipitation this morning. The Army Corp Of Idiots will jack the flows on the South Santiam when ever there is a light mist. Who knows why they do that, but it happens every year.

willierower hit the name on the head.they claim to do it to flush the smolts. and this year the water has actually been more stable than the pastseveral years.

You made a return trip to the South eh Birdhunter? I was about the second boat out there Sat morning at foster and was as shocked as you at the level. The million dollar question is why does it go from fishable to flood stage, especially on the weekends? Personally I think they spin a wheel in the morning and where the wheel stops is what dictates what the level will be. Anyhow it makes for a frustrating trip.
