Ok, so I am egg challenged. For those who buy their eggs, what is your favorite? I have heard about Amerman eggs, but what about some thing that I could get here in town in time for tomorrow? What is your favorite cure?

In certain applications, I use borax/cherry jello. But, more and more, I'm using Siberian brand egg cure. It's interesting how I stumbled onto it. I had a pile of silver eggs last fall that needed immediate curing. The local shop was out of pro-cure but had the Siberian stuff. So I thought "what the hell....let's give it a try!" I'm sold on it and probably won't use anything else for awhile. It's half the price of pro-cure, produces what I feel is a better bait, and, most importantly, the fish bite the eggs aggressively. I caught more fish than I ever have this winter and that Siberian cure was part of the reason why.

It's worth noting that most commercial cures are good when used according to the directions but I'm really impressed by this Siberian brand cure......and I've tried them all.

Anyone else use it?

Leave work now and drive to Tillamook Bait!

Or you can get Amerman eggs in Albany if you call the right guy. Let me know and I'll give you his number. He'll sell them right up until the time he goes to sleep. Right Grant!?

I bet Marry would do the same, but you'd have to call her and make arrangements.

I bought some of the Amerman and boy did I like them. I haven't used all of the quart I bought but I have 4 more chinooks in the freezer because of them. Scott mailed them to me and I got them the next day and the shipping was less than 7 dollars. I know that I will be buying more of them in the future. I do have a question though. What is the best way to store the eggs? How long do they last and what temp should they be stored at?

Try pro-cure eggs or amerman, I lean towards pro-cure, because Phil lets me pick through a few buckets to choose the best skeins. As for the cure use pro-cures red-hott double stuff.

Just talked to Scott and picked up a couple quarts of eggs after the fin clipping.

Scott said they will keep a couple of months in the fridge but they will keep in the freezer indefinately. He said refreezing is not a problem. One of the reasons they come so juicy is that it helps prevent freezer burn.

I am anxious to try these eggs.

Thanks for the reply CB, I guess that means I can buy more than I can use a month at a time.

Mine of course  There's nothing like an egg bite that can be confused with a spinner bite. Seriously, I've never had fish take eggs so hard as they did this winter, they were definately on a seek and destroy mission. I fell in love with a cure that's new to me.
But when I'm out, it's hard to beat the Amerman eggs. Man do those springers enjoy them  I can't wait to open another jar, cuz it's gonna be FISH ON !
