Does anyone know if the roads to Timothy or Clear Lakes are passable yet? I wanted to take the son trout fishing tomorrow. Does anyone know who to contact to find out?

Tanner,
Trillium - power bait and one patske red hot on a #50 treble, slip rig with an egg sinker, leader from a foot to three on the bottom.
Get the floating power bait to bring the rig up and float off the bottom.

Tanner, one of the guys I work with was at Timothy two weekends ago and they were knocking the trout dead. Small marshmellow, piece of worm and a Pautkze's. Plunking from the bank. Said htey started with power bait then went to this after the guy fishing it was out fishing everyone else three to one.

Tanner,
I just called the Mt. Hood Information Center (503) 622-7674 in Zigzag and was told that the campgrounds at both Timothy and Clear lakes are open and the roads are clear.

All roads are open and they just stocked Trillium. They said they won't be stocking Timothy til next week. Clear Lake was stocked Tuesday, after Memorial Day.
Good Luck

Firedog, no hidden agenda in my comment, just a screwin' around attempt at humor. Thanks for being there everyday for all of us to you and all Firemen. July and August is near!
Best,
Rick

******,
When I trout fish I say no to bait. Yep, that's right I'm one of them thar "Bug Tossers".
Anyway, We ended up at Laurence Lake with our pontoon boats. It was my 10 year old's first time flyfishing out of a pontoon and it would have been a great day if it were not for the gale force winds. We got to the far end of the lake where the stream feeds in and caught some really nice bows and cutthroats (one around 16"). Then the winds really kicked up, there was even white caps on the lake. Overall it was still a nice day and good to get away from the crowds.

Any of you make it up to Timothy last week? I'm sure the stocked trout should be biting but anybody find any kokanee up there? I always read that they are in there but have never had any luck targeting them. I have no problem finding big brookies and rainbows. Any suggestions on the Kokes?
I am assuming that the gravel road past Harriet Lake is open to come in the back way?
This is the time of year I give the big fish a break and go for a little low stress fishing, trolling with the electric...
Thanks,
Bill

Wet Willie,
We fish Timothy every year for about a week during the last half of July on our annual family campout. We catch lots of kokanee but they are small. I would say the average size most years is 8-9 inches. They are sure tasty little critters though. We usually troll from daylight til breakfast and average 15-30 fish. We're trolling with a downrigger usually at a depth of 20-30 feet. Terminal gear is a Flashlight or small dodger followed by a small spinner tipped with shoepeg corn. We have never had much luck targeting the large Brookies and Rainbow that time of year. What's your secret or are you just chasing them early in the season when they are more aggressively feediing? Good luck!

Dock Rat,
Thanks for the info on Kokes. I catch the majority of my bigger fish earlier in the season after the snows let you into the lake. This year I'm getting a late start. I have had best luck trolling the North shore of the lake and on the east end anchoring and casting spinner from the shallows, slowing the retrieve to allow it to drop deeper. The big brookies will prowl the shallower areas early in the am, early in the season. I don't have a downrigger so I don't fish much there during the later summer. I'll fish it again just when the snows start coming again and the temps drop.
