Just another push for your letters and voices concering the hatchery closures.
Honestly, have you written your letters?
It only takes a moment.
Please!
Start here! (http://www.ifish.net/write.html)
Or hand type and snail mail your concerns.
I have been a little depressed lately, reading the news, the budget, the garbage.
Bill keeps giving me doom and gloom reports.
After we caught that nice buck yesterday, I said, "Bill, if you were a guide still, here in Tillamook, what would you do if they closed the hatcheries?"
All he said was, "I'd be very depressed."
Come on, guys-- What can we do?
Jen

Jen,

I just heard thru the grapevine that Cedar Creek Hatchery isn't closing.

Ask Ron Byrd 1503-392-4269

See there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Sincerely,

I find that difficult to believe.
With the budget mess that Oregon is in, no, I hadn't heard this bit of news.
Ron must know something I don't know.

From what I read, the hatcheries are not in the cross hairs, but they certainly are not out of trouble. The Governor's proposal which would have resulted in their closure included program cuts to help meet a revenue deficit. He has withdrawn that proposal, but that doesn't mean anything is safe!

The latest revenue forecast is even more dire than previously expected, raising the estimated shortfall from something like $300 million to $880 million. The difference is that the Governor is proposing to cover the shortfall with new income taxes. The Republicans in the legislature a certain to oppose that. Without new revenue, programs will have to be cut. The hatcheries are certain to be on the block again!

Now is not the time to relax. The hatcheries are still targets! Unless someone comes up with enough funding to cover the $880 million revenue shortfall, you can be sure closure of the hatcheries will be among the many programs slated for termination!

Write to your legislators! Call your elected officials! Volunteer your time to support programs you value! Testify at hearings!

June 6 is the BIG DAY in Salem. Plan to be involved!
