Bonniville Sturgeon

Never been up to the dam for sturgeon. Heard that it's best to stop and catch some shad then head out to hook the big one. Well we have always fished PDX area. Don't have a clue where to go or what to use up there. We will be heading up at oh-dark-thirty this sunday to the fishery to put in.
Is there some one out there that could help me with what tackle to use on shad and where to catch them. Also where do we need to be to catch a couple of keepers.
Will be in a 21 foot sled with all the the stuff so just need a little direction.

We had success last Sunday (two oversize and lots of shakers) directly accross from the boat launch and slightly downstream (fish out from the four pilings). We anchored in about 85 feet of water in the back eddy just at the edge of the channel. We were using shad fillets as they were easier to keep on the bottom. If you do not want to take the time to catch your own bait, the store at the Fishery has them for sale.
