I was planning on doing some crabing in Newport's bay this weekend. Can anyone advise how productive it's been lately?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have the same thought. Will be camping around Lincoln City for five days. Taking the boat. Any news on good crabbing opportunities?
Other means of putting seafood on the table for a bunch of hungry campers?
Thanks guys.

BB,
Not sure how big your boat is but,we went out around the bar and set our pots in about 70'deep and after we (Puffin & crew)came back from the ranch we pulled pots and ended up with about 20 nice sized crab...

I too have either Newport or camping on the river in mind for the long weekend. What about the herring?..I understand there has been a lot of them taken in the bay lately...anyone else hear about that? If conditions are OK, I'm thinking a run to the rock pile for some chinook would also be good.

We did a bottom fish crabbing combo trip yesterday. On the way out we dumped 15 pots just off the north jetty and let them soak for 7 hours and ended up with 49 keepers. In my book thats not real good.
There herring in the bay as well as some perch. I think it would be worth a crabbibg/herring/fishing trip.

Stay away from the shallows by the north jetty. I would follow Iamforelks advice and go deep. We are getting alot of females in the shallows and not many good crab.
The sea lions are in the bay waiting for your crabbait.
Good to see you on the board Blubeast. Hope to see you on the water soon too.

Thanks to all for the replies. Pilar... taking my small boat, so will need to stay in the bay... based upon your herring post, I'll take herring rigs along as backup.
Thanks again.
