I have the dreaded KlezE virus in my computer and can't get rid of it. Is there any of you computer wizards that can possibly help me out. I have the latest Nortan AntiVirus program (just installed this weekend) and the links provided by Symantec to fix this virus won't work on my computer for some reason and of coarse their customer support leaves allot to be desired. I'm so so with my computer knowledge and have tryed everything I can think of to get rid of it. If there is anyone out there that can offer me some assistance please e-mail me your phone number and we can talk.

Thanks,
JK

Not sure if this will help or not but i found this on the net.......

Manual Removal

Scan your system with Trend Micro antivirus and note any infected file named WINK*.EXE (* is a random number of random characters)and Delete all files detected as WORM_KLEZ.E. To do this Trend customers must download the latest pattern file and scan their system. Other email users may use Housecall, Trend Micro's free online virus scanner.
Click Start>Run, type regedit then hit Enter.
Double click the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows
>CurrentVersion>Run
In the right panel, look for this registry entry and delete it:
Wink*, "wink*.exe"
Close the Registry.
Restart your system.
Using your notes in step 1, delete all values in the right panel that have the same name as those files detected/deleted by your Trend Micro antivirus.
This worm makes use of a vulnerability in HTTP-based email clients like Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. Please apply the latest patch:
Update to Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2
Update to IE 5.5 SP2
Update to IE 6.0

Artwo...I sent you an email in case you need a lot
of help. You must have had the virus before you
downloaded Norton.
I am using pc-cillin and I love it. I have had
a lot of klez the past few weeks and it's catching all of them.

i don't know how many folks are going to read this post but i'll put in a word here for zone alarm. it's free personal firewall software that almost couldn't be any easier to use. download it from www.zonelabs.com. (http://www.zonelabs.com.) no, i don't work for them or have any stock in them. i just think that zone alarm is a really good idea for anyone online.

While ZoneAlarm is a good firewall it won't, unfortunately, keep you from getting or sending out viruses.

Thank you to all who responded here and privately. It appears that I have this virus very bad and it will require me to format my hard drive. Luckilly I have a friend that is willing to help me do this since my local computer place wanted $150-$180  to do this for me. I appreciate all the feedback and hopefully after this weekend all will be back to normal. It's been a frustrating lesson learned but I can tell you now, I will definately keep my virus protection software up to date from here on out. $30 a year is cheap insurance for all this frustration (now I think I understand how Jen feels allot of times).

Thanks Again,
JK

PS, If any of you who I have in my address book have/recieve any e-mails from me until further notice please delete them. I'm sorry if this has caused any problems for others as a result.

Dirty scum bag hackers anyway, you'ld think they would have better things to do than mess with ordinarally good people.
