I have open seats for anyone with experience fishing and navigating the waters at Wheatland ferry. I have a 20' sled but no experience navigating the river up here. I think I am seeing some free time tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. Anyone interested? Shoot me and email.

isn't the Wheatland Ferry just north of Windsor Island? If so I did some work with an environmental company (helped with a biological assessment of the island) and when they went through the slew behind the island with an electrofishing boat they found all kinds of salmon and bass back there takin' a break.

I'd love to go but no-can-do. I ran my 22 foot sled down there a few years back. Not too much to worry about in the way of obstructions. What you will find is a dozen or so boats downstream anchored right up against the bank and plunking spinners. Your first trip will probably end up being nothing more than a scouting trip like mine was. Maybe you'll find a good slot and get lucky... Joe

Lip,
What you'll find is you'll be sharing the river with only a few of us that are too stubborn to give up. Although the counts look good the fishing is sucks. :depressed: There were only a few boats out on the weekend.
Sal is sort of right about easy running. There are some bars and trees you need to watch out for however. I have seen a sleds stuck on a gravel bar or two.
If you want more detailed info shoot me an email and I'll help you out.
Just as a side note I spent sat and sun there and never even had a bump and only know of 1 fish caught for both days.

If you have much experience with running your jet sled, you will find that area a piece of cake. Spinners are by far the most popular way of fishing. Not the Tillamook big #5's but a bit smaller. Don't forget K-13 or K-14 flatfish. Most anchor up in about 6' and use a 24 to 30 inch dropper line with 1 to 4 ounces, depending on the current. You will see the other boats very close to the bank and in the 6' or so water. Good luck neighbor, I have been down there two times this year, with one 18lb buck to show for it. Pretty easy fishing, sparse catching, but you should have a nice day. Don't forget to take $3 with you for the day pass. Much cheaper than the ticket.
