I would not have believed it if I had'nt been there myself. After breakfast from 6 am to 7am we arrived at the John Day ramp and at 7:15 was heading for Toung point. Set anchor twice and pulled up both times after no bites within 15 minutes. We set anchor for the third and final time at 8:30 We pulled the anchor at 10:30 after tagging out with four 45" to 47 " fish. during that 2 hours we caught 17 to 18 fish and only 4 of them went back as shakers. My only regret was the one fish limit which was out of the guides hand. Call JODY MATHER (guide servive) at 503-458-5450.
If he sounds to good true. I assure you there were other boats looking our way and wondering what our story was. As a side note, he has boats that wait off the side to follow him out. Wonder why? I don't.

Sounds like a fun trip. What bait was working best for you? What depth were you fishing? Is the Columbia still flowing despite the tide down there? I've got plans to fish there this weekend and would apprieciate any help.

Thanks for the report, Kampy. Nice trip! They sure do fight in the shallows.

Did you get any jumpers?

Jody Mathers may be OK to his customers, but he has absolutely no respect for fishermen. I wouldn't fish with that man if he was the last guide on the planet. I think the Exact words out of everyone's mouth who met him on the river is "THAT F*&$#@G JERK!! Trying to push people out of a hole that we were in first, and saying that we were following him out to his sight, and that we needed to move because he moves in with four clients. Sorry, It's a big river, I will fish where I want to fish, and if he doesn't like it, he can take a long walk on a short pier for all I care.  As you can see I have no love for the guy.

Ditto on the guy being an A** and a Jerk to everyone else on the river. Jody's problem is that he thinks his sh** doesn't stink.

What's the name or description of Jody Mathers' boat? Just curious so if we end up fishing next to him, we'll know who we're ******* off.

He owns a big Off shore deep hull boat that says: "JODY MATHERS" On the side, and it is in big blue letters.

The fishing in that area is great. Lots of fish and jumpers too. If you need a guide, I can recommend Len Self and Brad Vanderzandian. Know both personally for a long time and both top notch. Expect that both might have a few spots left open......... If you've never done this, it's great fun. Also getting fish in Youngs Bay mouth area..........

Now hear this ... I ain't moving for any guide ..
Jody Mather be damned. Let yourself be intimidated and you are the chump, not the guide.

Ask the last one that tried to drag me up river out of my hole at Kelly Point. He went back to the ramp for a new anchor.

If you got there first .. then the spot is yours. If you see a boat anchored in 'your' spot, you might ask if you can hogline with them. If the answer is no, move on and get over it.
