Fishing meldrum bar last night, Thought I heard
a fighter jet overhead but was amazed to see this
boat flying toward us at MACH 7 . This boat was
impressive to say the least, I would guess it to
be 30ft or so,White fiberglass (like a cigar boat) but the power plant is what made
me slobber. I would say it had two jet engines
and massive horsepower. Does anyone know what it
was that I saw?

I saw it a few weeks ago in Milwaukie, but at the speed he was doing, I assume he left meldrum bar about 5 seconds ago.

I am sure this boat does well in excess of 100 mph. Had to have been pushing 100mph if not exceeding it when he went by me.

I thought I was going to see Don Johnson from Miami Vice behind the wheel.

So, do you think he was trolling a bit too fast?

Saw it last night also, I was on the bank. It may be a T58 General Electric turbo-shaft engine. Produces over 1500HP when installed in helicopters. Definetly sounded neat coming up the river.

When you hook a springer at 100 MPH it sure takes the fight out of them. Might rip their face off as well........

The really funny thing was when we thought he was going to anchor next to us, but only asked if Sportcraft sold gas  We figured at the rate that boat went, that was probably a common question for him !

If its the boat I am thinking about, you can see it at the old saltys marine by the sellwood bridge.

It is powered by 2 blowen 502's that are putting out about 700plus ponys each. They are a direct drive prop., the same kind as the off shore racers use.

I saw it on Wed evening at Meldrum Bar. The enclosed bow was longer than my 19' Harbercraft.

People look at me funny when I tell them I just saw my first jet boat. Although, while I was in the Navy I visited a Spruence class Destroyer that had a gas turbine engine. Can you imagine a 280' Destroyer doing 50 mph.

I saw that one last summer shad fishing. It came flying up river to the hog lines and ideled down. Not that it sounded like it. The exhaust blowers on that thing looked like a harrier jet getting ready to do a vertical jump.
I had to keep doing double takes when ever it was running by. Thought we were getting buzzed by fighter jets.
Would be fun to go blasting across a glass smooth ocean in that thing.
Hmmm, wonder if you could halibut fish out of that, wouldn't take long to get to the chicken ranch with that. Might not have any kidneys left, but you could sure get there in a hurry.
