View Full Version : lower columbia still the place to be?
Making one last springer trip sunday and wanted some opinion on if the lower columbia is still happening. We usually anchor up around the prescott beach area. Yes, counts at the dam are surging but couldn't alot of those fish be ones that kegged up below the dam waiting for the right conditions? Or are there still alot of fresh ones piling through the lower river?
I don't have a huge amount of experience fishing these lower river springers(just this year and last) but I get the feeling it's becoming a little late in the run to be fishing the lower river, say, multnomah channel down, with any hope of multiple hookups.
Or, am I off base? What are some of your opinions?

Well .... I'm going to Sitka on Friday. Bet I catch a chinook. Heh-heh-heh.
Thumper;
Isn't it one Chinook a year up there for out of State residents? Isn't it around a $100 for a license? Aren't Columbia Springers the best eating fish on the Planet? :wink:
As far as the Lower River goes, check out Trick's post. That was last weekend.

I just wanna pay $400 to fly to Sitka, another bunch of dollars for a license for two days, then troll around in that brisk Alaska air throwing up all day to catch and release chinooks. What am I saying!!?!?!

Ummm....it closed last sunday, April 28th. However it is still open above Bonneville. So if you want to fish the big river you have to do some driving. Good luck and thank God you posted here instead of just going out. I would hate to see anyone get a ticket because of these crazy regs we have these days.

Well, I guess my post was a little premature. I hadn't read about the sunday re-opener yet. Sorry about that. See what I mean about crazy regs...
So,
Back to my original question????
