There are fish scattered throughout the Sandy. Both summer steelhead and springers are available. The two main places you can launch for a drift are from Dabney down to Lewis & Clark state parks and a higher drift from Oxbow park down to Dabney. You can only use a motor from Dabney down to the mouth. I would not try to run very far up in a drift boat with a motor. In fact I would be wary of going much further up than the Troutdale bridge from Lewis & Clark. This should only be tried with a sled if you want to hit holes like big bend or the guage hole if you were to launch at Lewis & Clark. That said, if you wanted to drift down and use the motor for backtrolling in the holes that would work but only if you launched at Dabney. Got all that?
There is a shuttle run by Dorothy Naas. Her number is 666-2270.
If you would like some additional advice come the Sandy Steelheaders meeting tonight at 7:30 at Glen Otto park (Sam Cox building) in Troutdale. I could talk to you in person as well as any of our other experienced Sandy anglers. You can get directions by going to our web site below.

no fishing from your boat upstream of the powerlines that are about a mile below oxbow park. no use of motors above the stark street bridge. i haven't heard of much chinook action anywhere but the lower river. summer steelhead are in all the way up to dodge and cedar creek. can't give you any help on colors or tactics. hope this little bit helps.

One small clarification. You can fish with a motor from the upper end of Dabney down. That's above Stark Street bridge. Not many power boats in the Dabney stretch but it is legal.
